Frozen eggs!!!

I have had a problem with frozen eggs to! it has been around -13 degrees for the past 3 days and all of the eggs aare frozen! o have a space heater in the coop and a heat lamp in there as well. Is there any trick 2 keeping eggs from freezing?

I insulated the inside of the nest boxes. They still freeze.

You can use the eggs if you run them under warm water while they're frozen and remove the peel. Put them in a bowl to thaw. Use them in a quiche or scramble them.

How many chickens do you have? I have 7 that are laying and been using only 2 nesting boxes instead of 4 and it worked. I also collected the eggs very often!! Hope this will work for you too!

I am concerned about the eggs freezing too. I do not plan on raising chicks but what can I do if the eggs freeze? Can I bring them in and cook them, or do I just throw them out? The lady with the rock eggs is a genius, those rock eggs should be kept in the nest in winter, those rocks will reflect the heat back to her. I also believe that those tin foil warming sheets they use in rescues and marathons to prevent hyperthemia, would be also useful in lining the nest in winter so the girls can stay warm without too much of a heat source other than their own bodies. I keep one of those in the car for the dog to lay on when it is cold out and she refuses to stay home. The dog snuggles up on it and when it was in the house the cats used it when I put it in their cat beds. So why not for the chickens?? It keeps their feet and bellies warmer....Still, what do I do with frozen eggs? Can they be cooked and eaten?

I wouldn't eat cracked eggs. li.l buggies can contaminate them. dogs get frozen eggs

I went to the site kitchen.com and they had an article there about frozen eggs. Nope I wouldn't eat cracked eggs either. I was mainly concerned about frozen eggs in the winter, cause its 12- here in Egg Harbor Wi and I still am planning my chicken coop. Got some ideas about how to keep the girls warm. I used those warming blankets they give you in rescue and marathons. Have some covered in fuzzy cloth I bought for my cats who just love them, and one for Snuggles an old dog I know. Figuring on getting some and line the boxes with it or even tin foil. Also we have lots of rocks here, nice round ones. We use them in the spas, warming them up and wrapping them in a towel. So, why not a few of those under the hens in the winter???They would reflect their own heat...what do you think?

Have you done this before? How long to thaw them? and while thawing aren't you worried contamination? or do you thaw in the fridge?
