Frozen pond — Dead duck

Im
Not sure how fast poison would kill a duck. That seems really fast
My thoughts could be did he go into shock from the cold water or a hawk came down and hit him
They can kill them instantly without putting the claws in just from the impact
If the ducks were in a warm environment and then drank the really cold water this could cause shock

If anything of this happened, I'm confused on why it would happen the others :(
How would a hawk hit him? If a hawk has came my others would've freaked And we're defiently hear it

Like I said just thoughts of what could cause it
I watched a video on a hawk
The pond was full of wild mallards and this hawk came at full speed hit the drake killing him instantly with the impact and was back up and none of the ducks scattered
It’s on YouTube so you can check it out
As for shock won’t happen to all of them it could have been the body heat to the freezing water and the amount she drank
My brother in the hot summer put his son in the kid pool that had cold water. He went into full body seizures from the temp change
Again this was just a possible few ideas that came to my mind as all the ducks drank the water but only one is dead so that rules out poison
Another possibility is he had a heart attack
You can always send him in to be checked on cause of death
This would help you to know
I don’t keep any water that my ducks need to break to drink
I use heated water buckets only in winter where I am as we get really cold
-25 to -40 C in Alberta Canada
Today is -30 and my ducks can’t even stand for 2 mins outside of they start to limp
Tiday they are having an inside day In their coop as it’s just to cold to chance it

Here is a post and the first comment made me think of your duck
Guzzling water to cold compared to body temp
Maybe this one drank to much ti fast compared to the others
There maybe more answers on here
Sure hope you find answers so you can keep the rest of them safe
I forgot to say I’m sorry for the loss
It’s always a sad moment ti loose a pet

He was still warm
If you suspect your ducks of being poisoned, a good way to help would be to give them each a couple pieces of bread. It soaks up poisons and harmful fluids.

Just don't use bread for a treate since it isn't greate for them, but small amounts when needed won't hurt.
