I just stumbled on this thread, and wanted to add some more on Homeopathic remedies to it. If you can add a Homeopathic starter kit to your herbs it is well worth it. In this day and age it is difficult to allow the body to do what it does best when one has the common cold and flu, and that is let the fever run it course. A fever is the bodies defense against fighting viral germs, but unfortunately we have been brainwashed into thinking we need to reduce fever, and yes, if it is really high, fever does need to be reduced, but for common flu and colds, let it cook these viruses out of our system. No wonder our children don't have a good immune system, they did studies of men in the Army, and now days our immune systems are almost non existant, compared to those of our mothers, fathers and grandparents.
My mother says that when they were growing up, when she got a cold (and it was rare), her mother would put her to bed, and heap on many blankets and feather beds to make her sweat, once she did this the cold was broken, and she felt better.
Lately I see all thes ads for Tamiflu (sp), please don't use this on yourself or your children unless it is a terrible strain of flu, one you could die of. It has terrible side effects, and should only be used in extreme flu cases. My fear is that Drs will start perscribing it for every flu that comes along, and that is scary.
That is my two cents worth! Also, buy a good natural healing book and a Homeopathic book to add your your library, can come in handy, as you may be able to harvest your own herbs locally. Of course take precausions, and don't pick herbs next to the road or ones that have been treated with pesticides.
Here is a good starter kit http://a2zhomeopathy.com/Homeopathy_Kits/index.html I have also seen them on Ebay and Nextag.
