I have four Rhode Island Red hens (pullets?) that are between 26-27 weeks old right now. Not ONE of them has laid a single egg yet! And only one has a red comb. What is the matter with them?! I also have a 30 week old Leghorn and a 30 week old Easter Egger who haven't started laying yet, either. They are from Ideal Poultry.

actually, we DO have a snake that has been eating the Leghorn eggs. It's gotten to where I am lucky to get one or two eggs a day. BUT, there is NO WAY that the snake can get into the nest box where the other hens are, and one of those EEs is laying and we get about an egg a day from her, but none of the others are laying yet. But with the RIRs, MAYBE the one with the red comb has been laying and the snake found that nest box, too, but I know the others aren't laying yet, they have no comb growing at all.
I finally bought some glass eggs online, waiting for those to arrive. Stupid snake.

They're polish, though....mine are not too bright LOL

Okay, so I have decided that it is the summer of the lazy pullets. I have four EEs that should be laying. They are 27 weeks old. Everyone has had red combs and faces for weeks now. They are fed laying mash. All my older hens are laying as usual. I have two of them in a separate area to see if they are laying and I am not catching them. One of the separated ones is the ring leader. They fly out of the run if they are all together, but if she's separated then they nobody flies out. We call them the hooligans. So I am waiting, too.

Have you checked your snake today? Does it have a fat belly.
