Full squishy crop in the morning and watery/bloody stools

I agree, I'd probably treat for all 3 too, and yes, you can give the coconut oil too. When dealing with a crop symptom, I always give coconut oil in addition to any other appropriate treatment.

I'm glad you are seeing a little improvement.

Don't freak out.

Do your hens also have Fowl Pox?

I'm just now seeing some lesions on the combs and wattles. Are there any lesions or pasty material inside the beaks or just some scabbing/lesions on the facial tissues/wattles/combs?

I think they may have fowl pox as well. At first I couldn’t tell if it was peck wounds or not…but there are more scabs on more of the chickens now. They don’t have anything inside their beaks, just the scabs on their combs/wattles/and ears. Mosquitoes have been bad lately. They started showing the scabs a few weeks before getting sick looking. Egg production didn’t drop until these last few days when they started showing signs of full crop and being lethargic.

Would this have any effect on the treatment and outcome of whatever else we have going on?

They all made it through the night, but my one girl who is feeling the worst is staying in the coop. She’s laying with her head low to the ground and eyes closed. The other two are moving around but still look like they don’t feel good. Their crops are still full. Besides coconut oil, is there anything I should be doing to help drain? I’m still worried about impaction, but don’t know how to help them clear it without making it worse.

I noticed some yellow/white in their droppings from overnight. One long tube looking thing (3rd picture)…could that be a worm?

We just lost the second one. She’s was in the nesting boxes and we went to give her medicine. Liquid starting pouring out of her mouth. When we put her down, she flopped to one and starting flopping around and died. The medicine we just gave her came out of her eyes. Did I drown this one too, or was it just part of dying?

I'm sorry that you've lost another one.

What medicine are you giving?

Is vet care an option?

The crops all feel squishy?

Do you have a picture of their posture, how they are laying with the head low to the ground?

I think I'd also consider giving a flush or at least some activated Charcoal just in case this is botulism or some other toxin causing the issues.

It can be hard to know what's going on, since you have several affected, I would make an assumption it's something they ingested.

As for the Fowl Pox, usually if it's only scabs on the combs/wattles, that is called Dry Form of Fowl Pox. This type usually will resolve on its own within a few weeks. Anything is possible, but I've personally never experienced and serious problems with Dry Fowl Pox in my flock, the birds didn't even seem phased by it.

I’m giving them Corid, safeguard dewormer, and miconazole.

The two that passed away had very squishy crops. I have one more that is worrying me. Her crop is still squishy, but not as big as the other two had been. She lays down most of the day, but tries to be out with the others when I let them out in the yard. She’s still trying to eat/drink here and there but not much…this evening she went up to the coop and sat by herself, and at bedtime laid on the coop floor on the opposite side of the others, facing away. The other two did something similar before they passed. Ill take a picture of her tomorrow and post it.

My 4th chicken that wasn’t feeling well seemed to be a little better today. Her crop still seemed a bit full, but not squishy. I’m going to check her in the morning to see if it drained overnight. She was running around with the others more and eating.

Someone recommended a vet that may see chickens that’s about 30/45 min away, so I’ll call tomorrow.

I still think this started with the treats I had been given them. Minus the fowl pox, they all seemed healthy and happy. I will look into the charcoal. Would this be something to do while I’m giving the other medicines?

I'd see if they improve by tomorrow, if not, then you can try the Charcoal if you wish.

Activated Charcoal can help bind to toxins and flush them out of the system, but there is a potential for it to also reduce the absorption of any medications you are giving as well. That probably would not be too big of a deal, since it's only usually given once, so if you do the charcoal, do it before medications or wait a few hours after medications. Does that make sense?

It does make sense.
Thank you. ❤️

I’m really hoping she feels better tomorrow. I know things happen, but not knowing what it is for sure and things going downhill so quickly has me baffled. I was able to save 3 of them when they were little from various things, so I feel like I failed them this time.

:hugs No, you are doing all you can for them.

I sure wish I had better answers for you, I'm hopeful that the others will pull through this.

Thank you so much.

You all have been so helpful and have given wonderful advice. I feel like they have a chance…and I would be a complete mess without the help that has been given.
