So I've got eggs in, now Day #5. I candled and can see veins on a few... about 10 or so out of about 50 (several batches of eggs from different sources). There was one batch of 36 eggs that was handled very roughly. Nothing visible in ANY of those eggs, although there were a few dark eggs in there. I decided to take those eggs out. One was starting to smell bad anyway. I decided that since I had taken them out I would crack them open to make sure there was nothing in any of them. I was right except for one single egg and it had a totally viable embryo with a beating heart. I feel really bad for it. Argh. I was down to the last three eggs in this group and I put the last two back in the incubator... just in case. They were part of the dark eggs I couldn't see in well, although the other dark eggs had nothing in them either. Several of these eggs were definitely already starting to go bad as their yolks were complete liquid. So, on one hand, I feel like I needed to get the bad/starting to rot eggs out. On the other hand, when do they explode? None of these other eggs had any evidence of life, except for this one (and who knows about the two I put back in).
So... I guess my questions are... how long can you leave in eggs where you don't know what's happening? Are you eventually able to see something on the dark eggs? I'm pretty nervous about them exploding. And I'm sad for the embryo I just accidently nixed.
Thoughts?
