Hey!!
I have to cage raise my hens because I have multiple hunting dogs that would love to eat them. I often have trouble finding things to keep my girls busy.
My run is made out of an old turtle or fish trap, that just so happened to fit my coop! It is about 9 feet long, and 3 feet tall. Perfect for this game!
So, to start, grab a hard fruit or vegetable, like pears, apples, kiwis, etc. And stomp on it until it makes large chunks. (Usually only one big stomp for me,)
Then, separate the chunks from the fruit or vegetable and cram them on the ceiling of your run, (I think this would only work if you have chicken wire or another big hole wire for a ceiling.) just enough so the piece stays in place, but doesn’t go through all the way to the run.
Then, sit back and relax and watch your chickens have fun!! Here are some photos of mine enjoying the game. I think it’s a good way to get mental and physical stimulation when you can’t free range.
Disclaimer, my chicken is not blind, her eyes are closed! Sorry for any confusion.

It seems that one of the girls is hogging! 🤣

Seems like a great idea to me! Free ranging is definitely not for everyone. There is definitely less risk when birds are kept in a run! ❤️

Yes, definitely, she is a hog.
She seems to be more confident and all of the other girls follow her lead. They all get some, don’t worry! 😂
