Funky egg bumps

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I expected to see calcium deposits before opening the thread. But I have never seen them look like that.

Can anyone tell me what these little dots/bumps are that I found on one of my hen's eggs?

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, calcium deposits...not too unusual, those are pretty heavy tho.
Coating looks weird too tho......or is that 'dirt'?
Is it consistent?
Other birds lay them too?
More info about your flock and what and how exactly you're feeding might help decide if a solution may be necessary.

Hi all,

Thanks for the quick replies!

I have 5 common brown laying hens in my flock. This was the first time I collected an egg that looked like this and all eggs since have been normal. I feed them a lay pellet mix from my local farmer's co-op and other scraps from the kitchen. One of my hens is currently molting and I think she is not laying right now because I get 3-4 eggs a day. I don't think the egg came from her.

How old are your birds?
Can get funky eggs as birds go into and come out of molt.
As long as it doesn't happen constantly, nothing to really worry about.
