Funniest Things A City Slicker Has Ever Said To You?

One of my friends asked me the other day if I have to give my chickens 'shots' before I can eat their eggs......
I think I said something like 'Uhhh.....no......'

ACTUALLY (And I know you may find this hard to believe)... I know this story - kind of second hand...

My grandmother said that when she was a girl, the goats would chew tin cans left in the garbage pile behind the house. I was a pretty smart kid, and so I seriously doubted this - so I pressed her on it. She clarified by informing me that the goats chewed the labels off of the cans, because they loved the taste of the glue that the labels were attached with.

THAT sounds way more reasonable.

I just about had a guy convinced that to be able to call chickens organic, we had to bite the heads off to kill them. I just couldn't keep a straight face when I saw the look in his eyes.

I think the weirdest thing I've been asked is about EE eggs.
"So if you boil a blue egg does it remain blue or does it change color?" Seriously?

well, what ELSE could they put there? A real man cow has his 'stuff' there... and i wouldn't want an animated bull walking around with that stuck to the front of him...

Make him like a Ken doll. Or Alan Rickman in Dogma

Ok, here are a few I have come across since we raise a lot of our own meat.

"Did ya know that if you buy meat at the grocery store like a normal person, no animals get harmed in the process?"

From a 12 yr old. "If you eat your own chickens how is the stores gonna make any money?"

From an Adult, "All a rooster is, is a spent hen, they fertilize their own eggs and that is what the white thingy is"

From an teenager, "Look, the bulls do have udders, I told you!"

( I teach 4-H and Farm Life classes) I have about a thousand, but these are a few of my favorites...

I get the opposite! People only want brown eggs because brown eggs are 'organic' and white eggs are 'store bought'..... um.... so my white eggs don't sell but I'll be darned if I can't get double for my teeny tiny little bantam EE eggs. You know, because blue is 'organic' as well. oooookay.

That is why we don't do green eggs, don't ya all know their moldy...

Sorry, I have to include these because they came from MY OWN kids.

My son when he was six was convinced our chicken was dying, I asked him why and he said because she laid a blue egg, she must be to cold.

My other son found a random nest from a wayward chicken, so I thought I would teach him about floating eggs. His theory... If it floats, they are not getting enough fat in their diet and if it sinks they are eating to many bugs.....

hmmmmm....
