Funniest Things A City Slicker Has Ever Said To You?

I've had a few people assume my hens were roosters because they have red combs & wattles

Oh and the ever present notion that you need a rooster for a hen to lay an egg.

A very cityfied freind and I went with a realtor to look at a 5 acre property this week and first thing he spotted were the 2 cows roaming around in the front yard (back gate was open) he exclaims to me that the one closest to us with horns, was a bull and we should be careful! I had a quick peek and told him "no..thats a cow..the one without horns is a bull though" .........."no way!" he says..bulls have horns and cows don't!" finally after a few minutes of arguing with him, he asked how did I know? (in a you know nothing tone of voice) Ummmm.........................Phil..look underneath.... it has Kahoonies

He looked again..."nope its a cow for sure" So I said in rather a loud voice..OK! you think it's a cow? go try to milk it then! Poor realtor guy was in hysterics

My husband and his friend Luke were driving around the countryside one day, and went past a field of sheep. Husband jokingly says to Luke: "You ought to go and catch one of those sheep."
Response, in total seriousness: " Why, are they going to bite me?"

but.. my neighbor is allergic to her home grown eggs but can eat commercial eggs... she's wildly alergic to alfalfa... her home chickens get in the alfalfa and apparently commercial chickens don't have any alfalfa in their feed. home eggs - hives. commercial eggs - no hives.
so maybe she's alergic to the BROWN ones

The Bambi reference drives me nuts........... my response is I've never seen a cartoon charactor running around in the woods, but if I do, I'll shoot it for you.

And my DMIL, always asks me if I CAUGHT a deer hunting........."no mom, I can't run that fast, thats why I have to SHOOT them"

Oh lordy, I love this thread & have been sharing it to many people (not all because some would be quite offended, if you get my drift LOL)

So long ago I mention how this one corner of our yard would make a great place for chickens & our friend (who really should know better) asks "won't your neighbors complain?" About what? Eggs? "no, the noise" (then proceeds to crow VERY much like a real rooster lol) Oh gosh no! We don't want roosters, just girl chickens! "but I thought roosters were the kind that laid the eggs" - at this point it dawned on me he thought all 'chickens' were roosters, & that chickens were actually a totally different bird.

I do have lots of fun in our neighborhood with our neighbors & the kids, unfortunately they truly don't know *squat* about nature (& this spans all ages)- I grew up in a city but still learned *in school* about various animals, their sounds, what they do & eat, etc. not to mention BIOLOGY in school & all I learned there... Makes me very sad at our state of general education when I read these comments. On a separate note, it's pretty sad actually, when people really think food comes from stores & that's the end of their understanding.

I do have lots of fun when people finally notice the chickens & I seriously tell them they're not chickens, they're ducks, occasionally I'll get someone who really doesn't know better. Or people will exclaim "baby turkeys, how cute!" & "are you going to eat them for Thanksgiving?"

It was pretty scary working at the small/large animal vet too...

I have a co-worker who is the opposite. She can't eat commercial eggs - they cause her some pretty severe intestinal problems. But she tried my eggs, on a suggestion from her Dr. No problems at all. They said it was likely a reaction to all the chemicals pumped into commercial poultry (she can't eat chicken either)
