Funniest Things A City Slicker Has Ever Said To You?

" Will the eggs grow babies if you don't eat them?"
1. The eggs are not fertilized, and,
2 they need to be incubated for three weeks to actually develop and hatch.

Well, this is what they would have you think...that they are learning in school. But so many people, and I am not just talking about kids either, but adults as well do not know their states! Or the capitals of them. Countless articles written from folks here in NM about contacting people in other states and it comes back with..."Sorry maam, we do not ship to Mexico"...or "Sir, you will need a visa to come to this state being from Mexico"...LOL Incredible. The educational system really needs an overhaul.

WOW! That's absolutely mind boggling. I thought it was just the small town people up here. My daughter knows just about all the countries in world georgraphy ... AND, has traveled extensively to many of them. She's completely deaf, too. No excuse for the rest of them

how do you expect the teachers to teach what they don't even know???? My second grade teacher literally could have been replaced by a kindergarten student with an electric cattle prod to keep the students in line and we would have learned about as much. A student once had intestinal problems and was let's say they were raising a stink the whole class could hear/smell what was going on and she couldn't understand what the strange odor was. at least three times a week we would be close enough to lunch after she would run trough a lesson she would look at the clock and say we have x many minutes till lunch and start on your x homework and if you finish it start on your other work. After a while (only 5 grades in the school) we hear the 1st grade on one side of us get up and leave their room, next the 3rd grade other side of the room get up and walk past our class room and the 4rth and 5th followed past the door, about 10 minutes later we would hear over the 2 way intercom "Mrs. Y" is your class going to lunch today, yes, well they are holding lunch for 10 minutes for you, oh my! you would think an adult with normal sight and hearing would hear those 2 classes get up (her students did) and three classes pass by her OPEN classroom door, but apperiantly she couldn't with her own class silently doing their assignments.

Again, I thought it was only the small town teachers were I live. I stand corrected.

Why is it so hot and where are we going in this hand basket?

Unfortunately the students are as only as smart as the teacher these days. I suppose things were going bad when we were in school, but it seems today, it is really going south. I don't know if it is a regional thing, as some kids are still being taught properly in some states. But then you have the other end of the scale and nobody knows anything, kids or teachers. I am glad I was raised when I was. Wouldn't want to be a kid these days. I am not perfect either, but at least I know all my 50 states and where they are located!

Actually, not true. Parents have a great deal to do with what their children learn. My ex and I had subscriptions to National Geographic and Gourmet magazines, which my daughter would poor through as soon as they arrived; she started at age 4. This is what gave her a love of travel, well prepared food, and photography, eventually becoming a professional photographer. My neighbor used to take the wonderful maps out of their Nat. Geo's and tape them on the ceiling over the kids' beds. That way, when the kids were just daydreaming in their rooms, they learned geography through osmosis - sometimes, they even became curious and consciously studied the maps. Our family traveled together a lot (not just Disney World, but places where they could learn about all kinds of things) and both my ex and I had traveled extensively before we had kids. So, we included these experiences in our dinner conversations. BOTH kids are travelers and well versed in geography. I also wish I had all the money I spent on good books for them, which either I would read to them, or they would read to themselves. Both their father and I modeled an interest in reading and learning, by reading a lot ourselves and talking about learning. I went back to college when they were very young, so they would see/help me study. I used to take the kids to the library a lot too, where they had story time and various educational activities; especially in the summer.

A love of learning is something you get from your parents.

Just so you'll know, I'm a school psychologist who works with kids with learning problems: finding out "why Johnny can't read". Much of what I see has to do with the parents who never read a book to their kids, just giving them Little Golden Books to chew up, tear, or color in. Other than "stop that", "go to bed", or "you're gonna get a whippin'", they have little to say to the children. Family conversations at/and dinner are a thing of the past. So, kids vocabularies are really poor these days, which has a huge negative impact on reading and learning. And, don't even get me started on what phonics and social media have done to spelling and handwriting! The teachers are delivering (not much teaching is required anymore) a state mandated curriculum, which is way dumbed down from the past and those currently in use in other countries, and, since so much depends on the results of state tests, they definitely teach TO the tests. I agree that there are many teachers out there who leave a lot to be desired and won't be heading to Oxford University any time soon, but most of what's wrong with education is the fault of our governments; federal, state, and local, and the voters. Too many parents want their kids to make all A's and bully the school system to get them. Others want little Johnny or Suzie to have good self esteem, without having to EARN it; like it's yet another award to be GIVEN them. Then, there are the parents who believe sports are the most important aspect of going to school. Most of it has to do with parents wanting "bragging rights" about their kids. Our children have become "political footballs" with parents on one team, and the school administration on the other.

I've been blown away by the educated, so-called "good" parents who have told me that they know _______ isn't really good for their child, but the child likes it and so does Mommy <big smile as she says it>. I've had 4 of them this week, alone, so I'm not making it up. It seems no one limits their parenting decisions to what's best for the kids any more, putting their own selfish wants aside for even a moment. Do you know how many women have told me they want a baby so they'll have someone to love them or take care of them when they're old? Bragging rights is a big reason, too. Heck of a burden to saddle a small child with.

I really despair for the future of our children and my heart aches. But, until the parents start putting the kids' REAL welfare (not the superficial stuff) first, it isn't going to get better.

Here is something a "city slicker" once asked me while about to travel up into the rugged mountains here..."Do the Deer turn into Elk the higher in elevation you go and at what point do they do this"??

7 biddies, my parents noticed my spelling wasn't doing well in 2nd grade and couldn't figure out why I copied the word only three times after copying it from the book instead of the "standard teen times" I told them the teacher wanted that and she said if we copied it more on our page she would subtract points for every time we copied it extra and if we did it ten times for each word we would end up with NEGATIVE POINTS for our homework assignment they didn't believe me and wouldn't call the parents of any of the kids in my class because they thought I was telling a lie. well two weeks later and getting negative points on the homework but improved tests they called the teacher, and she told them she didn't have time to grade each word and it was easier to mark it wrong until the students did it her way so she had less work to do. my parents the decided to hand me 2 sheets of paper one with words copied 3 times for the class dunce, I er, mean the class's teacher, and 7 more times for me to learn the word. they both where raised where the teachers wanted it done 10 times and it worked most for most of the students on most of the words.

Kids today are becoming more and more unprepared for "real life". US has the worst education rating of any 1st world country.
