That's actually a myth. My cats both are well-fed mousers. Actually, Rowdy is a mouser, a wood-ratter, and has been known to tree raccoons. It was fun watching Uncle Rowdy teaching Emily the kitten how to mouse. He would bring in a mouse, take it to the top of the stairs, then bat it down the stairs for her to chase...

I should have responded to this also. I feed my five rescue semi-feral cats extremely well. I also have evidence, given the number of bodies I have had to dispose of this year, that my well cats are more that capable of taking care of any rodent problem. It also helps that the neighbors have enough stuff that the mama rat is content to stay with them, and not bother me.

We had gone to the big city to do some shopping because my son had gone through a growth spurt. There was a very nice college aged guy helping us ~ and he was very much a city slicker. We were talking as my son was trying on clothes. He asked me where we live. Without thinking I replied, "Out in the boonies." He looked at me and tilted his head like a confused puppy and said, "What's a boony?"

Well my friend from NYC came over and was amazed watching the birds. When she turned to me pointed to my GEESE and asked oh my word where do you get chickens that big???

however, i've learned about chickens from my parents (we are immigrants from a poorer country, they grew up with chickens) and honestly, TV! but even I'VE gotten funny chicken comments!

Me: We've got to get rid of the roosters
Neighbor: But don't you want eggs?
Me: *silence* thinking to myself "he's from a similar background than us, shouldn't he know this?"

"Is that a turkey?"

Passerby: Whoa, what's that?
Dad: A chicken.
Passerby: Is that a REAL chicken?
Dad(without missing a beat): Have you ever seen a FAKE chicken?

these things make me laugh, but they also kinda make me want to cry

are my fellow cityslickers that out of touch ?

The only thing I got is that I have had people not eat banty eggs or brown eggs because they thought there was something wrong with them, and when I sell eggs, I bring them to work sometimes and I set the eggs on a table for them to pick up later. They ALWAYS ask, if they are still good afterwards because they have not been in the fridge. I always explaint hat other countries they never refridgerate eggs, you do not have to and they will not go bad or grow to be a chick unless it is over 99°F for 21 days.
Oh, and my mothers landlord had chickens (from what I understand, they must have been meat birds cause they could not walk) and he told her that he broke their legs on purpose when they were babies so they wouldn't get away and they would stay in their coop. I told my mother he was full of it.

One of the incidents that happened out here. Some hunters (use the term loosely) were driving down the road in the mountains. They stopped got out and shot a "deer". After shooting it they strung it up and skinned and gutted it. About that time the owner of the property showed up and asked them why they shot his nanny goat. These are people that are running around hunting and can't even tell the difference between a goat and a deer.

With a smile I respond. Yes you are correct. Mousers will mouse when fed. Kind of like Terriers will kill rats and other small creatures including chickens since they were bred to kill rats on sailing ships. Just like chickens, different breeds of cats have different personallities.

I've never had a cat and cannot speak about them. I was just repeating the wisdom of my Grandma from the mid 1950's. Her cats would also eat the dog's food and she would on occasion feed them as well "to keep them around". Cats are better to have around than snakes which also eat mice, and baby chicks, and eggs.

Didn't mean to offend or ruffle any feathers.

Thanks for being kind.
