We have a Rhode Island Red that is completely imprinted to my 8 year old daughter. It is about 2.5 weeks old and still in a brooder box in the dining room. The box doesn't have a top, but it's about 18" deep. "Little Red" has started to jump out of the box and walk around the house chirping loudly for my daughter. It sits on her shoulder, or in her lap and eats out of her hand. As soon as it hears her voice when she comes home from school the bird is OUT of the box. Hilarious! It breaks my heart to put a top on the box because this chicken just seems so happy with "her human." (Please, chicken Gods, make this one a HEN!)

Anyway, I thought it was cute and just had to share!

Very cute story! Sometimes they do get extremely imprinted on you and will call to you or as yours is doing, coming out of the box to find you.

I once hatched out a bunch of quail and the first one out of the egg imprinted on me big time. She, and yes she turned out to be a she, would call to me all day and all night long. Her voice would start out quietly, with these 5 ascending tones. But when I did not show up, her voice got louder and louder till it was nearly piercing! LOL If it was the middle of the night, I had to at least show my face to shut her up. And once she saw me, she was good for about 3 hours and then it would start in again. LOL Day in and day out.
