It's sort of flat on one side? To me, it's a slab sided egg - so yes it's possible she laid 2 eggs in 1 day. A slab sided egg is generally flattened on one side since another egg is pressing on it in the shell gland. They have not been without oyster shells or grit ever. I have only seen two of them eat the oyster shells, not to say they don't. It might have been one of the chickens I just got 3 days ago but that would mean she laid 2 in one day. Is that possible?
Thank you. She didn't lay today but I am sure she laid 2. Yes, it was flat with a bit of blood. She is stressed. She and her little sister. They have 4 HUGE orpingtons wanting to show their dominance and they Small Barred Rock. They are all closely aged. One is trying to hold her own, but the smaller of the two is scared of her own shadow. Bless their hearts. I only allow them together for a few minutes . They scrap a bit then I seperate. I won't let them gang up, which is Exactly what they want to do. I keep them to where they can see one another during the day, spend about an hour rotating the birds, but they all sleep in the coop together. I let the ORPS get settled on the perch, then bring the BR in and place them, then shut the door. I am there to get the BR off the perch first thing. SHEW! I pray it doesn't take long. This was the 4th day. My two black orpington's are really trying to flog! It's sort of flat on one side? To me, it's a slab sided egg - so yes it's possible she laid 2 eggs in 1 day. I would mark it up as a glitch. IF it's from the new chicken - then likely stress from the move to a new home/surroundings, etc. caused/contributed to this. She didn't lay in a timely manner - stressed birds often have a hard time getting settled.
Watch to see that she's eating/drinking well, not too stressed. A direct dose of PND or Poultry Cell may be helpful in giving her boost as well.
