Post your stories for times of boredom and rainy days. I use the distractions during my breaks at work!

Here's a funny story about our chicken, Whiskey, from yesterday. My husband, our two young daughters and myself were all present. I wish we had cameras because this would have been hilarious to rewatch.

We have this pretty brown pullet who is our most friendly, curious bird, her name is Whiskey. Last night around 8pm, we had them out while we were in the hot tub. She kept running up to the side to look at us, but apparently she was sizing up the tub and decided to jump up onto the edge. Luckily Karl was right there to stop her from getting in. After her ungraceful fail, she ran off and started checking out the step-stool the girls use to get on the trampoline. The zipper on the net was open a bit, so after a few minutes, she jumps directly from the ground and into the little opening on the trampoline! She was walking around while we're all laughing, but then she jumped and started frantically flapping her wings, scaling the netting. After a few seconds of watching in shock, Karl jumped out of the tub to go 'rescue' her. This bird was having the time of her life!! I got out just after Karl and put all the chickens away, that was more than enough excitement for one day. Prior to the hot tub jump, Ashlyn (our 4 year old) accidentally let the dogs out and Tucker (miniature schnauzer) had a few seconds in heaven chasing them all around. We never have any dull moments around our house.

I recently got 4 little chicks that are being raised by one of my hens. I always give the adult hens their food outside the run and the chicks get theirs inside. This is because on of my hens is extremely protective of her food, and she'll peck the chicks if they get too close.
Anyway, I was feeding them yesterday, and once all the food was gone (except for a few little pieces of carrot which they don't like), I put their food bowl back into the run and finished everything else I had to do. Meanwhile, the mama hen and the chicks were picking at the little pieces of food still left in the bowl, and they had flipped the bowl over.
As I was leaving the coop, I noticed one of the chicks, Bunny, was missing. She likes to escape from the run and scratch around outside, even though she's not supposed to, so I figured she was just outside.
I went out of the coop and started searching for her, but I couldn't find her. I started freaking out, thinking maybe a snake got her. (She's still quite small.)
So, as I'm searching for her, I look back into the coop, and I see the food bowl move. (Note that the bowl is made out of plastic and it's not very heavy.) None of the chickens were near enough to move it, so I kept watching it, and it moved again. Now the bowl is scooting all around the coop as if it were alive.
I went back into the coop, lifted up the bowl, and underneath it, was Bunny! She was not very happy to have been stuck under the bowl, and I think she was grateful that I rescued her from her great ordeal.
I still laugh every time I think about it.
