funny stuff on his bill?

I got to looking at my drake and in his bill on either side of where his nostrils are there is what looks like a rectangular layer that has grown there. I really don't know how to describe it. It is the same color and looks just like his bill just like it is developing another layer. Kinda dry too. Does anyone know what I am talking about? What is this and is it normal?

Without a photo- is is hard to say for certain- but I know I hae something similar with my ducks at times. As will all skin cells- shedding is completely normal- but it seems with ducks that they can sometimes get a build up which will peel and flake off.
