We have our chickens in a horse stall in our barn, we felt it was the safest and they love running round the rest of the barn eating bugs and stuff.
A few nights ago we discovered something very funny happens once we turn out the lights and the chickens are in their stall. They made really loud noises and make their way one by one to the corner where we have a pallet with their water and food situated. They keep calling until all 15 chickens are on the pallet and then they all snuggle down and go to sleep.
The noise is so loud until they are all there, then they go silent and that is that until the morning! Or until you turn on the lights again at which time they get up, run round eating and scratching until it goes dark again.
We have laughed so much that we are tempted to keep going in turning out the light and listening
My friends daughter says she can imagine that they are saying to each other things like
'move over'
'dont stand on my feet'
'thats my corner'
and so on!
