I am new to the site joined earlier today. Just thought of something that happened funny the day before yesterday. I had gone out to open the door on our chicken coop to let the girls out . While they were outside I was checking the water and the feed inside.. I was doing some work with the feeder and 3 of the girls came in one of them started getting closer and i looked down and noted i had on open toes shoes on and one was heading for my foot.she of them was trying to peck at my toes well actually 2 of them were. My husband was standing outside the door, but he could not see due to i was blocking his view. As I was telling him what they were doing he stated "They think your toes are worms" it actually made since. that night while watching tv we were talking about the day, and i told him Note to self don't go into chicken area with open toed shoes on . He just laughed at me. and rubbed it in a little about my toes looking to them like worms.

That is funny yet painful (ouch). If you have toe nail polish on they will attack your feet also, even tho "that" doesn't look like worms.

Welcome to BYC will have to watch out for that, my chooks are addicted to worms and anything that looks like them

I had a mean rooster last year. I usually wear rubber boots out when I head out to the coop, but of course sometimes I'd go out in trainers or even slippers on occasion. (I had to let them out every day before I got my auto door). Well that booger seemed to have radar for bare ankles or thin clothing, and if detected, the ankle flogging would begin! He never would attack if I had on jeans and boots though, it's like he knew that would be futile. He is gone now...

Welcome to BYC!

Chickens are funny, that's part of what makes having them around so enjoyable. We have a mixed flock of 13 and the 3 red sex links like to peck at the freckles on my legs. None of the other girls do that, just the RSL's. We just pick them up when they do it and now a couple of them have come to like the extra attention and cuddles.

Nice to have you here, thanks for joining us!

glad to be here have been getting a lot of info from the emergency ..... site have been reading on it since i got the chicks in April. When we had our chickens before of course this type of communication was not available then . Had to rely on info from friends and in my case family who had chick before when they were little and the feed and seed stores where you went to buy your chicks at Easter time . That was and still is the only way to get chicks then unless you knew someone by word of mouth that had hatched chickens and had some for sale. Now you can order online and have them shipped to you. All the information I have received or rather read about on that emergency page (I like to refer to it as my Prescription page I used to be a nurse for 26.5 years) has been very helpful. Now back is out can't lift due to herniated disk that i had surgery on in the early 90's . Now Severe chronic Arthritis has set in in multiple places in my back ( i am sure my joints as well) so now on disability but doing better than expected unless i forget and do something the Dr's told me i can't do anymore then i suffer the consequences. oops.

so sorry to hear that. We not only have chickens but a dog and 2 cats the cats could care less about the chicken the one male that is in and out will follow me around back to let the girls out then sits there patiently waiting for me to finish so he can come in for food and attention. over the years we have lost dogs and cats usually at an old age it is hard but time heals the pain. I actually met my husband over a dog . We had a Sheltie and mom wanted to get a female . we bought the dog from his parents. I was in 5th grade at the time. We never would have met any other way . different schools. different cities different circles.
