My hen is laying a regular egg and one with a soft shell......What tha heck???

This is even after giving her calcium. What do you all think??

How old is she? New to laying? Do you mean she lays a regular egg and then a soft shelled egg each time she lays? Or she lays 2 at a time? A little clarification would be helpful.

I estimate that she is about 6-8 months old, I rescued her, yes she lays two at the same time, one hard then one soft. Is it normal for her to lay 2 at a time?

No, it's not the norm. I don't know what it means, though, but I'll bet it isn't good. Maybe someone more experienced will chime in with something helpful. Sorry.

Has she always done this? Since you've had her? How long have you had her?

Usually soft-shelled eggs are a fluke in the plumbing or a stress reaction. The fact that she is laying them regularly is worrisome.

I have only had her for less than 2 months. She at first was laying soft eggs, so I gave her some calcium, now this is going on. She seems perfectly happy. We just introduced a rooster a month ago, could that have something to do with it?

A rooster shouldn't have any effect like this.

If you really want to know, separate them for 4 weeks. The effect of the rooster wears off after 3 weeks, egg-wise, fertilized-wise.

No lucky for me at this time she is the only mature hen I have all of my others are 4-6 weeks old and they never go in her little house. It came with her when I got her. They all go in their own place. That will all change when my new coop and yard is done! So back to the subject, she is the only hen it could be.
