I've never heard anyone say that, Cuda. Not sure I agree with that statement, though most birds have been exposed to mycoplasmas in one way or another if they have any contact with wild birds. I'll have to research that one.

What I do think is that treating sick birds weakens your flock, overall. Healthy birds do handle exposure to pathogens better than weaker ones.

Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) is a common, chronic, lingering disease. Symptoms include a nasal discharge, coughing and sometimes a swollen sinus below the eye. Infection can occur via the egg or from bird to bird. Good hygiene and veterinary prescribed antibiotics can control the problem.

CRD is very common. If you bring a few birds and they show symptoms while in quarantine, I'd say cull, especially if your own flock has never had it or shown symptoms of it. If your entire flock gets it, that may be a harder decision to make. I mean, who wants to cull 100 birds, right?​

These guys are isolated from all my other chickens I bought them all at the same time and noticed the illness so that whole group is separate from the others.
I talked to the vet and they suggested tetracyclien(sp?) It sounds alot like Terracymin, is it?They said it was a powder to mix in water. They also said if I was to bring them in and get them examed, that alone would be 60 or so then I'd have to pay for whatever midicine they gave me. This is a cheaper vet as well. I'm not rich or have extra money laying around right now, so that quite a bit of money for me to use- and it still possibly won't work.

I noticed on the site about CRD that one of the recommended drugs is baytril. I swear by baytril. It's done the trick for my chickens many times. I have a rooster right now that I took to the vets to ask to be shown how to inject him with Tylan 50. She said Tylan isn't that good, that baytril is the choice of antibiotics. I think you will find that the mycoplasma is pretty much everywhere, and most all chickens have been exposed to it at some point. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that you can keep chickens that can't cope with CRD, even if they continue to show symptoms without affecting your flock as they all get to cope with it either way. What I do recommend though, is not to breed fowl that can't get over CRD on their own. This just weakens your whole flock. I am not against medicating, and keeping birds if that is your desire, but on my yard, if they can't cope with any kind of respiratory disease without meds, they get culled. This way I promote a more hearty flock, that will be more disease resistant down the road. But, to some people, it is better to medicate and keep them as they are more of a pet. You have to make that choice yourself. BTW, Baytril is some good stuff, but you need a script to get it. Tylan is just as good, and you can get it OTC. Good luck!

I agree very much with this statement. It's not easy, especially if your birds are more pets than livestock as mine are(pets, that is), but I've always thought this was the best policy.​

I did want some of these for breeding...dang it. They aren't handicapped or anything...just those symptoms. I think that medication bytril is what the vet wanted to use if I brought them in.

Agrimycin Powder that you put in water is for infectious synovitis caused by Mycoplasma synoviae, CRD- air sac infection caused by Mycoplasna gallisepticum and Escherichia coli, or Fowl cholera caused by Pasteurella multocida.
Also this is for Turkeys, swine, sheep and Bovine.
Hope this helps, I found it at the local feed store. I noticed that one of the birds that I had treated seemed to have pinkish droppings under the coop in the morning. Although they do not seem unhealthy, sneezing, coughing, happy birds, I decided to treat them with this as a finisher type medication so to stop any problems that may be waiting.
Good luck to you, I would call the vet, see if blood work can be done, droppings, even if you have to wait and watch for a fresh stool sample- oh dear- lol.

I'm confused is MG the same as CRD or are they two seperate diseases? I get eggs and this is really scary. I have some birds in tractors seperate and some of the bigger birds free range, they would be miserable in tractors. I did find there is a vaccine for MG I may have to break down and purchase it, but if all birds have it then it would not work.
