Hi from Ohio! Gearing up to get my first chicks this spring. We will have a coop with attached run in our garden for them to graduate to when they're old enough. Super excited.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We don't have chickens yet, but we will be getting some chicks in the spring. :) I (over)research anything that's new to me so I've been browsing this site for maybe a year now and finally joined.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Again, don't have them yet... but plan on starting out with 3-5 chicks this spring.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Need to figure out what kind we'll get! Interested in too many breeds. Thinking of getting a Black Copper Maran, Blue Orpington, and New Hampshire Red. But also curious about Easter Eggers, Wyandottes, Wellsummers, and Speckled Sussex. Would love to hear any success stories with particular breeds!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love animals of all kinds. But also excited for fresh eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Horses, gardening, interior design, reading.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my husband on five acres and four cats. Slowly wearing my husband down and adding more and more animals... ;)

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Enjoy this new adventure you are about to start! Chickens are so much fun to keep. While you are waiting for spring, you might do some reading in our Learning Center, lots of good reads on all the aspects of keeping poultry... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

And of course, ask any questions you may have, we are all ears!

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!! :)

Welcome!
I recommend that you not only get a minimum of six chicks, but also some goats! :thumbsup
BCM and Welsummer lay a dark chocolate egg. EE will hopefully give you blue, but maybe green. Anything is possible with them. A Leghorn lays white, and most others lay brown.
Here is Marans, Barred Rock and an EE.

Thank you for sharing!!

I would get Lavender Orpingtons instead of blue, if you want that color, because it breeds true, if you order a blue of some kind you may get black or splash, and that would disappoint if you do not have a lot of chickens.
I also love the Lavender Orpingtons! Honestly, I love all of those grayish colored breeds.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I have 16 different breeds and one mixed breed. Out of them the mixed breed is my favorite. She is just too cute. But I also really love my PBR hen and my White Leghorns. My best layers are the WLHs and my white rock. My Easter Eggers are quite social too.

Welcome to BYC!! I have Olive eggers and California Whites...both lay consistently large eggs. They aren't as friendly as some of the stories I see on here, but if you have any sort of treat or food for them they come right to you and don't mind being handled. Beautiful birds as well!
Best of luck establishing your flock!

:welcome
