My girls got to see the sun and the grass for the first time yesterday afternoon. We took them out and let them run around, and they were in chicken-heaven, flapping those newly-feathered wings and exploring the various terrain.

I managed to capture this picture of my EE and BR from behind - so you can all enjoy the fuzzy chick bums that are so cute. I think the BR's bottom looks a bit like a penguin!

Edited to add: the only downside is that we live in a bit of a flight path (no noise, but the jets for Hobby airport often cut diagonally over our backyard). The chicks apparently think the planes are a hawk, and they duck for cover when one goes over. They'd better get used to it, since this will be their home for life!

Cheers!

By my best guess, they were one week and one day old yesterday, when the pics were taken. We've had them for six days as of today.

What's amazing is the amount of change in less than a week. I have an "on arrival" picture of my RIR, where she had almost no feathers on her wings yet. Now, they are more than half feathered. It's uncanny!

You know I believe the phrase "guess what, chicken butt" came from someone trying to take a chick pick. Mine do this in most of the pics I take! I see a great pic and it comes out chicken butt!!LOL! They are adorable though! I have 3 br and I have also thought they look like penguins! Named one Happy Feet! Good luck on the little ones! I love 'em! Mine are 17 days today!!
