Fuzzy's Farm

did you see the one on magnesium deficiency? I think it was something the parents had to be deficient in to pass to the chicks......... something about thick shortened legs?

Or if he really is wrong "at the hips" can you feel where it's abnormal? Probably too late to do braces since he's grown. (Though my spraddle leg link in my siggy notes says you can do a gradual system to normalize somewhat) Like braces, with a rubber band. If his legs are proper up and down ways though, idk.

I wondered if his feathers were poking his feet when he took a step; If his front facing ones stick out, that has to be a bit tricky! Mine acted like theirs was bothering them so i trimmed them down a bit, but you are wanting to show, so.......... so you need deep litter and nice feet feathers.

I can't get anyone to answer back on the d'uccle thread, but i think someone mentioned doing monthly caster oil dips to soften feathers and keep them supple for shows? Idk how you would get the extra oil off though.........Maybie if the wood chips in the cage were deep they'd soak it up?

Hmm, I've never heard of doing that. I just feed them Show Conditioner (the little pellets from Manna Pro that you add into normal food) for a month before showing. That makes a HUGE difference. Their feathers get softer, and they grow in faster and softer. I also use good, gentle shampoo when I bathe them (3 days before show) that won't strip the oil from their feathers. The hardest thing is keeping their vulture hocks looking nice, especially since mine all free range (except for the month before the show), they start to look torn up on the ends. But keeping them on something soft like sawdust for awhile, and making sure I kind of reshape them after their bath helps.

I used to show a lot. :p

I REALLY like the show conditioner too, i use it on my EE's off and on all year and boy do they glow! Their feathers are like touching cashmere...........

Hey, did anyone else notice that the link i gave earlier had my "bumblefoot not healing well" featured as one of the help links? :D here i am learning off them, and whoever it is also is learning off me! neat! I wrote a letter to them because it makes me feel good that i may have been able to help someone else with their bird.

Well, as long as he's eating, happy, and protected from any one who might be a meany... Then all is good. If it looks like it's going to be a problem, then I will have to get rid of the dogs, cats and my mom and have a house chicken. HAHAHAHA
Lol! ROFL!

And I have a tiny problem .. my sister swears after looking at recent pics that tiny is a rooster not a hen ... now im worried not that I mind if she is a he but idk if my sister is just picking for fun and doesnt realize she has upset me or is serious ...
You know, I kind of thought that, too, from one of the pictures you posted a week or so ago, but I didn't say anything because I figured the feathers probably only looked that way in the pic.
I never look forward to thanksgiving. Everyone expects a big meal, and no one wants to clean up! LOL. Maybe this year I will get several of those pan turkeys. HEHE. Turkey loaf. Yup. LOL.
I have nothing to look forward to. We tend to just stay home. No big meal just a crockpot chicken (no one in this house like turkey except me

I miss turkey!) with basic Thanksgiving sides and a pie.
Loaf? Oh, that's just cruel. LOL

What another frosty morning we have here! I am off to do some grocery shopping. Maybe I will get what I need for Thanksgiving dinner. Going to just buy a bones breast and a small ham. Nothing then to pick clean, nothing to stuff. My mom wants turkey. John wants ham. Jace wants pizza, Aiden, he's good. He'll try any thing, but he'll want the ham, carrots and apples. LOL. Smart kid. If I just cooked according to Aiden, like, it would be so simple!

Some of the birds have moved back into the big coop on their own. Think I will have to put up another roost in there. It's my guess that the smarty pants realised it's more cozy there. LOL. Need to get some of them to roost in the other coops too. I have 2 open coops, no one wants to use them. LOL. Picky butts. Ok, the one will be best for the non roosting birds...

Well anyway... have a nice day y'all. Supposed to get into the low 50's where I am at. Maybe I will get that yard work done. But, I betcha I won't. HAHA.
