*sigh* a week ago i posted pics of my d'uccles on that thread, and asked if they were quality or not. No reply! So i still don't know. I know they look better than a lot of the others posted by the non-showers, but........ I can't show, but it would still be nice to know!
Took all of the chips out of the coop the other day, back to scraping and mopping. Got too nasty, i kept adding pine shavings but since it's not freezing in there.......... whew! I finally walked in one day to a highly ammonia smelling coop, that was it! So no deep litter happening for me, i will add chips and replace once a week i guess.
Treated the whole lot of them for lice, uncle next door got a few more roos a couple months ago "with no lice" and well.............. darn old farts. Won't listen to me because i'm too young to know anything! This last roo he kept is friendly though and he's handling him so a few days ago when he caught him for the night i looked him over until i found the lice............ he "didn't look chewed" so uncle didn't know, and for some reason people think dust bathing stops lice??? Grr. Anyway i talked him into letting me treat his bird this time, i kindly blamed the wild turkeys for the lice and refrained from being too smart. As soon as i'm able i'm gonna definitely get the ivermectin though, hopefully he'll let me do that as well. (potential worms)
I hate doing this over and over to my flock, seems like every time i get it all gone and done they import more roosters to butcher! And of course they have to come see what all the happy noises are about over at my coop! I didn't even get to eat any eggs this summer! Between heat and treating , and trying to get a broody going.......I hope the "babies" did ok with it. Poor things were getting chewed too, they are still very small for their age so i gave them a banty dose.

. If you can, get them to stand up straight, so that their heads and tail are parallel.
for your grandson. That's scary.........
Outside is more fun but comes with a chilly breeze, they will do it for an hour and then it's back to the coop. That's probably why i'm failing with the deep litter; it worked last year but i used waaay more dry maple leaves and was able to have it deeper. I also lost the poop board because the new birds needed a high roost, and to have a poop board would make it too hard for me to do my floor cleaning with the new roost's placement.
