Fuzzy's Farm

It's ok robin, it's really hard to place birds right now.  Everyone has already been slimming down for the winter, and with feed prices being what they are things are tighter than usual this year. Chances of placing them properly were slim to none, especially with all these winter hatchings and spring hatchings going on.  Sad fact of life that most of the babies are roosters, and roosters don't get along with too many other roosters.  The majority of folks wanting roosters want a meal on top of that, and these were nuggets at best.  Not show quality either, so..... they were just boys being boys.

Just a sucky situation, hurts but part of owning animals is doing what's right for them and not yourself sometimes.  Our olive friend used to say something along that line,  this year it has been driven home to me.

Well I know I could have placed them in a good home. I have people that takes unwanted Roos and they don't eat them. They just put them with their free ranging hens. I just wish I had seen it earlier. And yes, that is one of Olives sayings.

which you totally did?? lol.  Do they have the silkie hairdo's ?   One of these days i want to hold an orloff.  They just look so round and adorable!

It looks totally like an Orloff except its feathers on its feet and legs. I only have one. She only had 2 eggs and one hasn't hatched yet. If you want it it is yours when the weather gets better. I can have more if I want them. I only let her have the two eggs because she wouldn't quit being broody.

Yup fuzzy, just the wyandottes. Every darn last one! It makes me so mad. I know its repro problems too because her belly is already starting to get puffy.

Gigi, sorry, for got earlier, sorry about your hen. I hope you gave your hubby a verbal smack upside the back of his head. LOL.

Robin, glad you had fun.

Gracious I know on the broody problem! I wouldn't let any of the inexperienced hens have babies so close to winter. I would let Skeeter or Skatter, but none of the others. If Sheh-Sheh or Coco Chanel goes broody again in the spring, I will be calling Robin for eggs. I know Skeeter and Skatter will.

I think my little pink skinned Soledad is thinking of going egg laying. She was in the nest box today. Doing nothing, just hanging out. LOL. Skeeter started laying again too. 14 eggs today.

I have boughten Wyandottes 2 different times from that hatchery and have never had a problem with them. They must see you coming or something. Hmmm.

Yes, call me for eggs. Right now I am getting 38 eggs a day. I have eggs everywhere.

I didn't have laying problems with the goldens I got from a breeder. Those were perfect until Vonna died in the nest box... I am thinking she had a heart attack or something... I am just going to hope the anti biotics and the lack of light will do her good. I wouldn't care if she quit laying all together, she'd have a forever home here regardless ya know. But that's just me.

well, i will keep that in mind if i end up having to give up more birds.

I have kept as many roos as possible because no one wants them and i feel so bad for them.
The black and white and the gold and black are also supposed to be rehomed, the gold and black is a for sure pullet. I wasn't sure about rehoming while they were so small and with most flocks being confined for the winter, so i was aiming to wait for spring to find them homes. I am hoping desperately that the black and white is a pullet too, so i can place her into a good home.
