Fuzzy's Farm

Hello everyone.
Sorry for those of you who lost chicks.

I've been sick for a bit now, but today I'm feeling a bit better so I went out to visit my flock and give out treats. Noticed tons of feathers around the yard and coop so I do believe my group is molting which would explain why our egg count has gone down over the last week.

:( Aww. Well, i had to save cocoa's baby, she was hurting her leg worse and worse. Couldn't put weight on it by the time i got her out, and i let it go for about 10 min because i had the last egg externally pipped and he was trying to zip. He ended up out, but i know it was harder for him. :( I hate to be that way, wasn't the plan, but that chick was the object and since i can't replace her i already knew that i'd risk the others if necessary. Just was REALLY hoping i didn't get pushed to that :(

I'm still not sure about whether he was alive at that point, because that night i listened and did a quick candle because the bator was kinda stinking up my room

Do they die from shrink wrapping? I don't understand why they die right away?
Yes they do. They shrinkwrap immediatly when opened. I have done it as I'm sure others have to at one point or another. I have had to do the same thing to save someone else. It just all a risk. But at least you got the one you wanted the most.

Hi teeville. What is wrong with you? I hear there is a lot of nasty stuff going around. Hope you get better.

sigh.

If i had known, i would have helped him. Not even a peep, though. I had my ear to the bator to listen for even the tiniest scratch, just in case.

So the air breath-ability of the shell is overrated? I had thought that if someone was in trouble they'd stay alive until i did the check. I did the check quickly for that reason.

Don't beat yourself up over it. It happens to everyone. Like I said, at least you got the one you wanted. Sometimes we have to make a sacrifice to save the one we wanted. It's all good.

Sometimes chickies aren't meant to be that is what my sister always tells me ... i lost the one in the big egg but I saved tye

Hi RBahmer. Not quite sure. This one is going from one thing to the next. My daughter got sick first and it's kind of similar, but not. I've gone from a range of nauseated, to head cold, to sinus infection, back to nauseated. I haven't taken anything for it in a few days because it was getting to the point that I would feel over-medicated and feel absolutely off for hours. I still feel odd, but at least the cold/infection seems to be almost cleared up. I really don't like feeling this way and hope it goes away soon. Unfortunately, with my schedule, I think it might take more time than I would like. After all, moms can't get sick and if they do they just deal, right? Whoever came up with that?

Seriously, though, my family is being a bit lenient (Yay Naps!) which I'm glad for.
