Fuzzy's Farm

Boy do I know how tempting new babies are. We went to a feed store in another town to pick up goat feed and they had buff brahma chicks. If DH hadn't have been with me I would have walked out with half a dozen - LOL. But he keeps me in tight rein 'cause we already have way more than I can give away eggs - ha.

Just ordered an automatic door opener from Smarthome. It's the Add-a-motor and was on sale for $75 which was pretty good. It should seriously help with letting them out early. As it is now and if I'm lucky, I drag myself out at 7:30 (when the chicks are ready to get out at 7). Plus got a good timer. This should help the house sitter when we go on vacation also. I'm seriously thinking about going solar. Get a solar charger on the roof of the coop that will work both the automatic door, the pond pump, and lights in the goat barn. The only problem is we have a ton of trees. hmmmm. Have any of you tried anything solar?

Evening everyone. Today has been long and exhausting. Had to drive out to Holland with the kids to deal with some unpleasant business. After almost 3 hours, we were able to go so I took the kids for some ice cream and headed out to the beach for some needed de-stressing. Way to cold for swimming, but my girls walked along the water looking for stones and I played on the beach with my great-niece and nephew. It was nice to be able to relax for a bit before the oncoming chaos.

Well. I see how you are. Come to my town... not say hi... WAAAHAAAHAAA.

Totally kidding. Glad you got to destress at the beach.

Skatter didn't make it. Soledad does look to be much better now though. I am hoping and praying she pulls through. I actually expected her to be gone too, She was so much worse that Skatter was. (antifreeze) That is depressing, she was my only green egg layer and she was also a most excellent broody. She's raised 8 clutches in her 2 years. I only have one bird left from my original flock now... The rest have all died of predator attacks, reproduction problems, and heat stroke... I take that back, I have 2. Fiametta and Skeeter...Fiametta is going on 3!

Anyway. I am so tired. I am going to hit the sack.

Oh... eggs are set... heat is holding good.

Oh, I have solar lights on my deck. I have lots of trees too. They suck. If you have a place to put the solar charger that gets a lot of light, might be good. Let us know. I was thinking of getting the solar charger for running a hot wire around the coop for night time.

Sorry, Nova. I thought about you, but considering why we had to go there, I just didn't think it would be good timing. Hey, if it helps you feel better, my mermaid sundae really gave me a huge toothache.

For the love of all. I have another broody.

Went out to where I have the first broody crated and was telling DS that we need to move her to a secure pen in the next few days so that if any of her chicks hatch (5-6 days) they can be safe and he tells me that there's another one nesting. Excuse me. Where? So he shows me and it's one of the jerseys. So I pick her up to see if she's sitting on anything and she has 13 eggs under her. I asked him how long has she been sitting on them and he said 2 days for sure, but that's only because he noticed her then. No telling for sure how long she's been on them so I have to let her sit. If there are any chickies going, I'm not going to snuff them out. Dear Lord, I might have to build a new coop depending on how many babies all hatch.

I'm sorry about Scatter, Nova. It's so hard to lose one of your 'originals'. I only have 6 of my original 11. Too hard.

Got the added pasture finished today. Its deep woods with lots of brush. The goaties are like kids in a candy shop but they will only go into the new pasture if I'm out there with them. Fraidy goats.

Walking on the beach sounds like such fun, Tee. Sorry the circumstances were bad but
I bet the kids enjoyed that part. 13 eggs...you might have lots of babies coming,,whoopee.

Solar running the hot wire. That would be great. I'll let you know how it goes. We've had clouds for the last couple of weeks so I can't see how much sun this location will get. It doesn't seem too hard to set up a small system though and might be kind of cool. Free energy..
