Fuzzy's Farm

I'm hoping i have babies left later, i have been slowly trying to intro them to the flock in short bits; Today was nice enough that i put them all out and they all went and dug craters :D Then they were all tipsy acting after so they were not really trying to be mean or to run. Even the babies got into the digging, and didn't even budge when their nemesis came and did a halfhearted peck (a jealous cookie) so i think cookie is satisfied of her superior status. (It seems that if they take off quickly the birds think the babies aren't accepting their authority) ??

Then i tried it all again with everyone in the coop, it was good for at least 45 min before i gave up in hunger and went home for a bite! :)

At the rate these babies are going the big birds are going to be kinder in terms of damage! I don't think anyone wants them dead, they seem to just be establishing authority but the way these babies scream and run it kinda gets the others excited.......... but they are actually bigger than the d'uccles by a bit, so if they can be calm and learn the "rules" of the other girls all will be well. Otherwise i'll rope DH into assisting me with a wall building, because he has the electric saw and won't entrust me with it, lol.

Henry is starting to consider the babies his to protect, because when the yard millie roos came to the fence he ran over and stood by the babies. When one of the hens was mean he did a wing kick at her, was nice to see. Maurice has grown bold being the new #2 rooster, he crows and he kicked the tar out of the poor visiting roo yesterday before i could scoop him up; and for some reason he has decided that he likes them big- instead of putting moves on "his" girls he chased down cookie today. Didn't get her, her big butt panicked and ran to me and demanded protection. (She's HUGE) she could squash him easy, but don't know her power, lol. She's much bigger and heavier than even my orp was! His adopted mom (booted bantam, very tiny) flares her neck and puts him in his place quite frequently. :D
Those little hens are very fiesty!!!

I thought about it tee... But as pretty as they are, I'd get them for only one reason, so when I pen/coop Fritz and Blackie (who really needs a more dignified name) together, I'd put them in just for the smell of it so she's not over mounted by the Jerk...

Turned into a lovely day today. Really not bad at all. Should finish up any lingering chores tomorrow. I can't see this lovely weather lasting here much longer. So very weird...

I was showing off my chickens to the ladies where I deliver papers to today... The residents that is. Some of them were totally amazed that there is really such a variety. They've only ever seen doms, leggerns, BR, NH and RIRs... The silkies quite cracked them up and the seremas amazed at the size. And they were blown away by the faverolle boys. LOL. Said they'd never seen a rooster so colorful and big. LOL. I told them that the JG and Orp roos can get much much bigger. Well anyway, that was my giggle for the day. The reactions that is.

Anyway... Silver! Yeah, I'll pm you. Are you still visiting with family, well have family visiting you?

MsB has been MIA quite a bit too. I think she may have gotten bored with us old foggies... LOL

Hi Robin!

Thanks on the Carmel... It is very bumming. I was so happy with how she was looking too. The only one of the three remaining chick from Roger that actually looked SOP. RJ has to much red in his face, and he's huge... wing feathers aren't to nice... By huge, he is bigger than what Roger was... And then the splash is pink skinned... Oh well. This is life with free ranging...

My babies survived the day, they stayed in their kennel and the others stayed on their side, they seemed to be pretending the door was shut

Ah,............ birds.
Then i let out the others and gave everyone sardines, good times. Then had to manually toss babies out the door and shut it quick enough that i got myself! They were convinced the big girls wanted to eat them and the big girls seem bored with the drama.

I see why maurice is aiming for the big ninny- he tried with his foster mom today and boy did she blow up! Chased him down and grabbed him by the hackle, hung on while he screamed and ran! Geesh. Poor little guy, i kinda felt sorry! Henry looked irritated but didn't get angry when he made a little run at cookie, so if the girls are ok i think he will be ok with sharing. lol. (Sharma the foster mom has a fetish for henry, the big roo- what a mixed up bunch!!!)

I think i'm gonna use this brief warming to try to wean the babies from their light........???

Sorry about your girl, nova. :( I looked at hardware cloth today, not cheap! Biggest i could find was only 3' x 10'. ??? . Why don't it come taller???
I couldn't do a true free range, it's illegal to kill hawks and i'd be too angry...........
"uncle" saw the big hawk a week ago, (the one i battled over my chickens this summer with the 3' wing span) and DH saw what we believe to be a coyote today, not 50' from the shed! (100' from the coop!) I saw tracks the other day but was hoping it was a stray dog; DH says not to worry but i don't like the idea of a coyote so close when i'm wandering out of the coop just after dark :(
