Fuzzy's Farm

No kidding. Aren't they still nursing at 4 weeks? Backside hole.

Sob hawk was back... Got a cockerel chick this time. Just pulled in the driveway... All the birds were in the garage, saw a puff of white under feathers, and the hawk was trying to get away with him... He wasn't even afraid of me going after him till I was in a few feet of him! THAT IS NOT GOOD! It looks to be the same one as last week. The cockerel was a 3/4fav-1/4 sussex or brahma... He was the one I said had a broken toe. He was finally on the mend, and getting around really good, toe back strait... dagnabit! I am going to seriously tickoff the birds and leave them locked up for several days. Whats the point of having that big run... I know for winter, but this is one dam determined to eat me out of chickens, hawk.

I have 2 pieces of good news!!!!

I talked to my SIL and told her to tell him that I wanted the puppies. I figured he wouldn't let her have them because he doesn't want her to have the money for them or whatever...
Anyway the cuteness of them is over and they are pooping and barking in his basement...

HE SAID SHE COULD TAKE THEM!!!!!!!

I feel so much better! Now I just hope he won't be a donkey when she goes to get them tonight!

2nd piece....

I GOT MY FIRST EGG!!!!

This pretty girl... (RIR/BWA).....

Left me this pretty little gift!!!

Is its color considered olive or brown?

Congrats on the egg and I would say it is brown. Olive is more greenish.

I would never take a puppy away before 6 weeks... unless it was an emergency!!!
I am glad they will get to stay with mama in much better conditions now!

The egg is somewhat heat sensitive... like a mood ring. If I hold it it changes to a slightly darker color! I have never seen that happen before!

Idk on that egg color, but it sure is neat! A beige brown/ gold brown!

I let go of the little teenage cockerel that was causing trouble and picking on his litter-mates. :( sad, but necessary. Poor little guy had too much testosterone for his age! His comb was huge and deformed looking. He was good to me, so it made me sad. But he did not feel a thing, was not scared. That is very important to me, so i can be sad without grieving the way i did for blue. The others could not do anything but sit up on a perch without him flaring and running around challenging them, grabbing feathers out of them and yanking on their necks; they aren't ready for that so a lot of scared huddling was going on. :( I already saw them more relaxed.

The big birds aren't being mean, when he was picking on them and making them scream they would come running to see what was going on, which scared the little ones worse; without that conflict hopefully the integration will be complete. I want it to hurry up so i don't have to worry about them being scared to share water! I was thinking about building a wall, but watching the interaction it seems overkill because the big birds really don't care, it's the little's fears from initiation still is all.

Thanks to EVERYONE about my little cockerel. I am just glad since one had to get made into dinner, it was a cockerel this time and not another pullet. I am mad because he was starting to turn out looking very faverolle-ish. Could have bred him back to a full blooded faverolle hen from different parentage and gotten nearly pure faverolles.

Some one else, I can't remember who, was saying that they had an egg doing that too. I think I read it on the PENN thread...

It happens...

Bout the wall, You know, that might not be a bad idea. Split it right down the middle with a swing door on both sides big enough for you to duck through for cleaning purposes, and to separate out troublesome ones in future. Maybe even then get them little mille's in there so you only have one coop to worry over in the winter. Simple wall of 2x2 furring strips and chicken wire. Even the doors could be made that way.
