Fuzzy's Farm

Oh mom

If only i could give you a girl. You need a girl to hug! You have the worst rooster luck i've ever ever EVER seen!

My dad doesn't want to butcher a rooster, but I am so sick and tired of seeing roosters killed without any purpose at all!

I am half tempted to butcher him myself! I am just so tired of so much possible food getting wasted! Do you guys think I could manage killing a chicken? I don't think I ever could...

(Sorry to rant. Rant over now...)

AHA! I have arrived, let the party begin!

Time to SPAM THIS THREAD WITH CHICK PICS!

This guy.. Hope a girl... Is a Roger/Vanilla baby. There is a lot of grey/blue in its fuzz along with that lovely gold coming in on the wings. It was black and golden when it hatched...

As you can see, this is the faverolle cross.. Go Mr. F! Anyway, those blackish brown feathers coming in on her wings are FUZZY! Not just fuzzy, but curly fuzzy. In the pic below, what you may think is a tail sticking up is actually wing feathers sticking up that much. Isn't it AWESOME! I created the ULITMATE Silkerolle.

So, did this adorable, wonderful, sweet, cute, lovel--- sorry, I'm getting off track--- did this cutie-pie turn into a girl or a boy?

Hi Mom2 go figure you've got crowing ! I thinks you only know how to grow roosters

Some one on CL this morning had 4 button quail I think they were listed in the pet section Ann arbor or Det.. They were if I remember not looking for it again the were in Fenton.

C4L... I am thinking, the next round of roosters you get, you don't pick up and baby... That is one thing I never do unless it is to check them over for some reason. I have yet to have a mean one. They come up to me, take food from hand, but they don't get picked up and cuddled while they are bitty. I am of the persuasion that some roosters are really good roosters still even after being picked up and cuddled, but more are likely to turn into royal pains. AND I have had 7 roosters in my yard at one time, and you'd think one or two would be jerks once they hit maturity.

There is are all kinds of websites that give some tips for dealing with aggressive roosters... LOT OF SITES. Here you will get a lot of kill it and eat it. If you don't want to butcher it and eat it, or have your dad shoot it and be done with it, research how to fix it. If he is young enough, you may be able to stop the behavior before it becomes habit. BUT once you establish you are his boss, he will turn the agression elsewhere... other people, the dog... just keep that in mind...

I thought she was a fav cross because of the sudden color on her wings, but nope... she's full out silkie hen... just pink skinned. That color kept going all over as you can see. SO, a splash... This was the second chick in the quote...
The other chick, the gold/black/blue... she was a she, and an ahole hawk killed her 2 weeks ago now.

C4L this past summer there was a thread on here on how to deal with aggressive roo's. Nova is right about not cuddling them though.
The article was saying it is an alpha thing and one suggestion was to hold your roo under your arm and carrying it around while doing your chores. Kind of like a I've got you thing and I am boss here. Listen up, or your going to meet your maker. Maybe you can find that thread. good luck.

or Coop visitors.............My roo loved me, only me. Like having a trained guard dog gone wrong! Hated DH with a passion, could see the fury in his eyes if DH went for a hug or kiss...............that one got started on his bad habits from a kid "playing" (read tormenting) while i wasn't there.......

Henry looks to be a good roo. I am hugging, and no sign of aggression; "blue the roo" hadn't gotten aggressive either though he had gotten into behaviors that signaled that he would have been far too hormonal and rough on hens potentially. Then there was the recent chick that i had DH put down, for aggression to hatchmates.............. I do believe that most of it is in bad bloodlines, so don't breed from those roos!

Other roos i had were great, until i turned them 100% free, then they got territory aggression!

Only thing i can say is there are two approaches; one is to let into the bird and "make it count" so he'll think twice; one is to ignore and hope that he'll realize the futility; I tried the ignoring on my pet roo, nada. Then i snapped one day and really let him have it, that seemed to do the trick. I also learned what ticked him off and tried not to.

I will say though that i miss my bird badly............ but it is priceless to walk around without having to overthink every step. :/
