Yes! She stayed in the house for like 2 weeks after I adopted her and she talked CONSTANTLY. It finally got so obnoxious I moved her back outside. Sort of, she has weirdly thick legs and was a fat baby.
I'd get more but internet's being slow.
She's half EE, but I have no idea what her daddy was........maybe my Barred Rock Cross? He's my only "active" roo that doesn't have slate legs, and her mama's legs were green. I have no idea, genetics cornfuses me.
She makes sure I get chicken cussed daily, because otherwise I would have no idea that my place is as her in-house belly scratcher.
I only know who lays what because every once in awhile I catch them laying an egg. Then I keep everything in a notebook. But this fall 20 of the pullets started laying and it got hard to keep track of 60+ layers.
Yeah white eggs... She's the only one though that can be laying that egg... I will have to post a pic of the hen so ya'll can tell me what she is. She's not a campine now that I look at them.
Yes! Put the 4 batteries in, or if you bought the power supply, start it up, set the date, time, name... There are a few preloaded aps. Took pics of the dog. Lol, and grandma.'lol. I haven't downloaded yet either. I will let him pick those. I will also buy him some with the app card.
Hi guys, doing ok. Little bean didn't make it last night though I knew it, he knew it. I thought he'd have passed a couple days ago, but he just hung on. I held him a long time last night, comforted him. I was going to have DH put him down but i had a feeling it was close anyway, so i let him die in the place he was raised. I hope it brought him peace. He was warm and comfortable.
Everyone else is fine, i still don't really understand.
My MIL cancelled Christmas at her house... no joke...
MIL and SIL have been living together... not a good thing for anyone...
So Christmas is cancelled
Good for me! I gots stuff to do!
As stated before... you have to figure out whether you want a cuddler... or an independent breed...
If you are going for pet/ cuddler, I suggest a silkie. They are easy to catch and soft. Feathers are more like fur. However, if you do not plan on spending time with this creature everyday you will want to get more than just one chick. (I would suggest never getting just one anyway)
If you are interested in an independant breed... maybe for eggs... I suggest easter eggers, barred rocks (I find these to be more aggressive with other breeds in my experience), rhode island reds...
I have an RIR mix that has just started laying and she hasn't stopped!!! She is an egg machine!
Either way if they are going to be outside you need to build a coop that is big enough for the number of birds you want now x's 2... NOT KIDDING do this... You must build the coop twice as big as you need it to be... you will want to get more!... and maybe more... Just go big or go home
I also highly recomend an enclosed run/ covered run. I have a 4'x8' covered run surrounded by a larger open run... but I like that my chickens can scratch in the enclosed run while I am not home or able to watch them, so I know they are safe!

Was her momma a chunky talkative thing too? My girl was shaped like a basketball on legs, and she was super human oriented too. Both her daughters are as well. From what i can see from different threads those funny ones do seem to be more talky and friendly; i wonder if it's a different strain of EE? Whatever it is is very dominant, as it breeds into the offspring regardless of father. The older daughter was broody raised and i didn't handle her until she was a month or older, and she's still this way so i know it's a true thing. The little one is my last gift from my little girl, and i'm raising her myself no broody this time.
See? broad back, short body length from neck to tail; short thick neck feathering, short wings carried high on the body like a fly. Abnormally fluffy bottom, softer than the others, more silkie type underfuzz, sometimes the back feathers are barely there and it's mostly fuzz feathers? :
my girl in all her queen-ish glory, reigning over me and the flock. She used saddles as a status feature, so this one made her prance
See the hunched posture?
Hope's hunching too! Same thick body. Big nose.
Cookie, same big nose and hunching
If you enlarge you can clearly see the difference between my hen up top and the "regular" hen below.

Just for fun, the porcelain trio. The two d'uccles on the right are brother and sister, the booted banty on the left is the TSC chick. She has good coloring too, and decent foot feathering so i have kept her as a sure way to not inbreed. Beards are pretty dominant, so most of her babies should have them. Her eggs are brown, too so easy to tell the difference. (I've only seen one though, so either she's not laying or she's hiding/ eating) Puzzling. I did give her the d'uccles as chicks, so perhaps it triggered her hormones to stop laying? Either way it's too cold for this breed to lay anyway.
Robin hope your feeling better
Silver enjoy time with you DH, mine is going back out Sunday for San Diego
C4L can't go wrong Lego's for little bro or hot wheels
Everyone here in Mi. watch the sore throats. My grandson started with a sore throat and fever. Got sent home from school Wednesday P.M. Says doc was called and he said no need to come in lots of stuff going around. Friday A.m. went to doc .................... Full blown Scarlet Fever fever, strep throat, cough, snot, and measles like rash with swelling in the fingers and toes. And all he wanted to do was sleep. No appetite either.Get out the Clorox spay, hand sanitizer and please remember to wash hands if out using public places.
