Actually, that right there is crap. What they are doing is putting the guilt trip on you. As for paying day care being more expensive when you have to go and pay some one to watch your boy, well they as well as admitted they KNOW you are being cheated by them. They KNOW IT, and by pulling the, end it before friendships are disolved line, well that would have ended it for me right there. Putting a guilt trip on you, laying it all on your shoulders, well that is not cool. I think they'd be able to add $1 an hour. Its only $40 more. They can't do that?
As for daycare... you might qualify for assistance for the day care, or if you have a family member that could possible watch during your working hours. OR you work the opposite shift of your BF, child care is negated that way.
Friends do not screw friends over like that. Those aren't friends. And I'd say hell no on the notice. You only have to give a 2 week notice at most jobs, so this should be not different. AND get paid 1/2 in advance for you last week.
About the taxes... Considering you are in a new year, and if they decide to give you a raise, and then say, well we have to report it on our taxes, you won't have to worry about that until next filing season. BUT, you might want to go on to IRS website and see how much you'd have to pay for being in private business as a baby sitter. A lot of times it will have to do with how much you actually made. You will also have to keep an expense log, so you know how much is being paid, how much you are spending to provide the care, such as food, day care supplies. Keep reciepts for food purchases/stock for the day care. It isn't that hard actually to do, keeping an inventory.
How old is your boy? Is he in school? Or starting this upcomig fall? Maybe you could hold out until your kid goes to school, get 3rd shift job.... Again, negating some of the daycare expense that way.
Or you could get a day care licence, go into business for yourself, get paid by the state?
Me personally, if BF is home all night, then I'd work the 3rd shift, or what ever shift is opposite to him, but still gives you plenty of hours with your kids. I won't work a 2nd shift. Jace is in school, I'd never see him. That is not going to happen. It's first or third...
