I have a question for you guys. A few of my girls have had poopy butts the last couple of weeks. I've trimmed them and slathered new stock on (for vent gleet) but I'm still seeing some. Do you think they could have worms? I don't see anything in their droppings but then again, not sure what I'm looking for. I have the stuff to run fecals on the goats - do you know if this works for chickens? And what would I be treating them with if it is worms?

Cold and snow is what is going on LOL. Tired of the cold now.
Well, no shadow was seem by mr groundhog so maybe we will have an early spring. At least you guys are getting moisture. I'd give anything to have snow so everything wouldn't die here from the drought. Just think of it as the perfect opportunity to curl up with blankets and a good book - LOL!

Well, the best one to ask this to is Nova

a fecal is a fecal is a fecal= you can run a fecal.

However coccidia and giardia are hard to find!!! Look careful.

And the orphans are going to have to rely on each other and me. Sure beats dying by strangulation. They will get over it, lol.

Its SOOOOOOOOOOOO cold out, and Robin I am sick of it too- or else I would be hanging at your place today. lol Instead, my brilliant polar bear husband wants us to hang up the privacy screen on my privacy fence today. Hes insane. i dont do cold.

grown animals have a stronger immune system however-

a grown dog can get coccidia, so i dont know why a hen couldnt.

Coccidia is a single-celled parasite that is found in dirty water puddles, shed in feces- can be from other animals, wild birds, mice, etc. If the birds drink from dirty water that has feces in it, boom they can get it.

It can also be in the soil (this is ONLY if something that HAD coccidia defecated in the soil), and hens scratching around in the dirt, picking at this/that can eat it, thereby swallowing the parasite.
