Well, not Robin, LOL but I've been doing lots of reading on forage for pastures. Clover is what I'm going to seed in the goat pasture as it's hardy and lots of good nutrients. I'd certainly grab it. We did rye seed down here and it was lush until it got hot and then just melted away. Couldn't take the heat of Oklahoma. I'm going to plant some in wire covered boxes in the run and also some clover if I can find it down here.ROBIN! I NEED A BIG BIG BIG FAVOR! Ok, it's not a favor, just a question that I hope you can answer, or any one else for that matter... I was thinking of grabbing a bag of clover and greens seeds from TSC, its for drawing deer actually, but supposed to spread and cover. I have an area around the coop and where the ducks were that has been completely decimated of all vegetation thanks to the ducks joy of rooting. Now, I could replant grass or something, but I was thinking maybe this clover mix would be nice instead. I'd have it fenced off to keep the birds out of it until it was started and took root well and was at least up over my ankles before I let the chickens back in that area. Would that be a good idea? Would it hold up to the chickens? It'll also be then in the area I will be ranging meat birds come later spring...
That's good. I have to work tomorrow and the worst part of my drive will be in the first 10 minutes. Oh, and look, it's to be windy out, too. Up to 50mph winds and ice. This will be fun.Yes, it sure did make for some icey roads. I could have ice skated on some of them. Not kidding. Was a bit nerve wracking. No work for me until Tuesday now.
Anyway, it is the wisdom on me, the ones next to them look ok on the bottom, but on the tops I think I am going to have to have the top back 4 out, 2 on each side... bummer...
So happy to see you on here, Savannah. It looks like Mississippi got a whole path of tornadoes hitting it.Good morning everyone. Wow you are all getting some nasty weather! And yes the rye grass docent do heat very well, we are getting ready to plant Bermuda and Kentucky blue grass over our rye for summer! But if you want a fast growing grass rye is the way to go! And depending on how warm it gets where you are, you will have a nice deep green grass until heat hits it! Worth a try! Think the clover is a great idea too. Is clover expensive? Never thought about it. And yes I'm sure I'm going to be swamped with eggs soon, but it's so awesome to get the eggs! I'm really enjoying our chickens. Hope you all have a great day!
hope your goat is ok!!! and she does not give ya too much trouble ... how is everyone today ?!?So happy to see you on here, Savannah. It looks like Mississippi got a whole path of tornadoes hitting it.
Taking our oldest female goat into the vet today. She's very listless and not eating - never a good sign in a goat. I'm thinking she has a urinary tract infection. It's not going to be fun because she's very obstinate (and heavy) so getting her in the back of the Element won't be easy much less walking her into the vet's where there are probably going to be dogs. She'll freak out.
