Post a pic up of your current brooder. I built a cheese ball cheap-o brooder. It is not out of doors worthy though. Nope. It is in my garage. I used it first for chicks I got in January. Then I used it for a broody hen and her chicks. I have even used it as a run in front of the dog house coop when Leila hatched out her first silkies and Roger was recovering from his encounter with the hawk. It is versatile, I tell you that much. Now though, I have added a solid back wall and a solid floor. I set it open top up when I am keeping chicks and broody mama's in. Then I set it open side out when It is time for those chicks and mamas to start going out. Again though, this brooder in no way could be used out of doors. A raccoon would be able to get in it with a flick of his wrist... I could however completely finish siding the box and have another 2x4 coop for the seremas... Hmmmm. LOL. Nope... My luck will have me having a gazillion broodies in the winter again.

I have yet to have a nasty roo... Well, Fritz the Jerk doesn't count. He's a no bigger than a chicken sandwiche.
