You'll have to click to enlarge, i didn't want to hog a whole page!!!
Cocoa Jr, she's gotten pretty zippy and independant!
My blonde, who carries a bit of whatever genes that the one that didn't
make it last year had. Markings are different, but colors all there.
So far her wing feathers are coming in buff/cream and blue!
Her back is less mahogony, and her head don't have a dark patch, but the blue buff blend is there.........
I still wish this guy would have made it. He'd have definitely been my new roo.
This guy has very similar markings on his head and back, the blue around the head, but
just don't have the buff. Mostly black and brown.
Blondie has a possible brother, this one has the same colors but because there
is less blue and more buff/cream he looks darker
These two, one is blue and rust and one is black and brown
These babies are growing fast!!!
Yesterday i took off for an hour and i came back to wing feathers Gah! But i am looking for specific colors so i am excited to see so much blue popping up, and that buff, since i had a silver roo he may have diluted the color of the hen.......
It would be awsome to have the makings of "lemon" color, so many people are looking to add it into their flock! So far this "buff" is looking just like the color that came in with my porcelains. Same pale blue and all, but i know there's no lav in there. There's black in the fuzz too, so just a really pale blue.
This is that sad hen i got from the auction, her feathers STILL aren't coming in yet.
I think she is a yearling I have been feeding her showbird feather grower
in an effort to get her looking better. All but one are hers
This was my lap baby, and the one i'm trying to clone. If i had nothing but
a whole flock of these i would die happy.
If i hadn't had cookie, i would have stopped
raising chickens for a while. She's too much like her ma, and i don't want
to adopt her out. Would be too hard.
I need the blues to have with the orloffs so i have a
good chance of getting more like her.
I dunno, I just end up with a lot of black chicks. It's all that dang Sumatra blood. I swear, we only ever had 1 Sumatra hen, and she has more offspring running around than any other chicken ever...............EVERY HATCH has one that is related to her somehow.........
I wasn't into genetics either until i fell head over heals for my hen. I wanted to make her a house chicken, when we bought a house. Chickens can live for a dozen years or so, i had a parakeet live that long so i was expecting to have her a long time.
Now i'm trying to de-code what made her special, it won't bring her back but it will give me peace. I like the blue buff because i like blue, and the buff pattern makes them practically invisable to hawks! See how nice they blend in with the surroundings? Camo chicken!
Lol, well, blues might be slightly better than any more black chickens. They all have something different though, like one that passes down brown lacing on her wings, it's weird, but EVERY ONE of her offspring has that........
