Fuzzy's Farm

Nova, i have been pondering your worm dillema, and if i were in your shoes i might try to get Carl to go in on a bottle of ivermectin to share. (Assuming they were roundworms) If he don't do his at the same time, they will get them right back. Also the ivermectin is supposed to do the lice as well, so it would be good all around and he could still eat his eggs. This may be what i get next too. I couldn't get the millie snots to eat their worm meds, and since i didn't do their de-bugging at the same time i see my big girls have them back. Uugh. They don't mix, but close enough, i guess. I have to wait until this tylan is gone, i have a day or two left. So 5-6 days worth of dosing? They ran right through it. I may save the last bit to give to little Sharma for a couple extra days, she is much improved but still a tad raspy. Ty for the link, i'll add it :)

Fermented Feed. Well, i have been pondering how to as well, not for the feed itself but to ferment wheat germ. Expensive, but it is one of the only natural things known to kill MG. It was recommended to cancer patients as well, it is an excellent immune helper and supposed to be a very strong anti-bacterial! I don't know that any one thing alone will prove to be effective on MG/ CRD, but this would go a long way towards helping, especially this time of year!
X 2 on the worm medicine. If she is raspy still by all means save the last little bit for her. If you could afford a pack of LS-50 you would be so much better off but it is expensive and I know you can't afford that. $30.00 for a pack the size of a package of duramycin. But is soooo worth it.

I'm not sold on the fermented feed idea either. From all my experience in farming I have only seen fermented feed (corn) fed to cows. And I know for a fact it decreases their lifespan drastically. When I had my beef cattle I had one live to be almost 30 years old. She was 28 when she died. My cows were never given sillage ( fermented corn) and when I miked cows the life span of a dairy cow was believed to be about 5 years old. Was told this by many dairy farmers plus seen it with my own eyes when I milked because of the sillage. Would kill horses and such so I just can't make myself believe it can be a good thing. Just my opinion.

Only if you count 9 as having experience.

Our cats are good with the chickens. They don't chase them or hunt them. Just kind of meander around the yard with them and from time to time join in eating the treats thrown out there. They get mice sometimes, but are really good at catching frogs.
Thanks, teeville5. I think this one's going to be like that. She seems to have no interest in the chickens. She's pretty young so all the girls are bigger than she is. And she is pure black - to quote MsB -- Muwahahahaha (or something like that-ha). Sorry MsB if I misquoted - LOL! Anyway, a good halloween cat...

I do not know if I posted this one here, but! The black blob in the center is Payne the cat... The rest are the January chicks following him. It was pretty funny actually. Sorry the picture is crappy, They are quite a ways away from me, and the cameral I was using... SUCKED for zooming in...BIG TIME. None of OUR cats bother the chickens. Some of the more ferel cats will though.
Cool. I think we are going to name it McCavity (CATS). Once you name something then they are yours forever - LOL!

Last Halloween there was a stray pure black cat in the Braum's parking lot. He was SO SWEET! I was really going to take him home, he was stuck to me like glue. But dad said no.......I think someone did pick him up.

LOL, it's okay, it's the same idea. ;)

Congrats on the bird sales, Rusty...that's great! :)

...I think I am going to stick fairly tightly to this Fuzzy Farm forum, because I'm sick of the haughtiness, arrogance, rudeness and know-it-all attitudes I seem to find in virtually every other forum here. There's enough of you here in this forum who know a lot about chickens, and are willing to share your knowledge in a humble manner instead of an "in your face and around the corner" manner. Can I bring along a sleeping bag and a pillow?

Clucky (who refuses to keep "learning" things from arrogant people, regardless of whether or not they're right) ...bad night/morning
Yay Clucky!

So if i didn't have mold before, i do now :( Trying to decide on whether or not i am doing insulation in the re-walling. Seems to be a big moisture collector, but with the aluminum siding will it be too cold without it?
I used those solid sheets of styrofoam you get at lowes or HD. They work great and all you do is glue them up. So easy and can be pulled down easy if you need to. Plus they are great insulation.
