Morning All
Looks like it is going to be a nice day. too bad I have errands or I would try to finish up yard work. (I don't think I will ever be done with that.)

Morning Robin... I wrote out a "Hi" to you earlier, but for some reason, I either didn't submit it, cuz I got side tracked, or I submitted but changed the page before it was done... ANYWAY! How are you doing? I have to do laundry big time today. My friend finally go this new washer and dryer and is selling me his old for 40 bucks! YES, they are older, but he says they still work good. I figure if it works a year at 40 bucks, I am not going to complain. I surely can not afford a new set of both, and currently renting a washer... UGH!

I am going to post a picture of the feeder that Olive told me to make for the birds... SO, everyone else will know what I mean if they don't and be able to consider if they are having waste issues...
Cost plus tax is bought new... bout 10 bucks. If you are lucky and already have some used but clean pails ( I got mine from a food factory) then the cost of the pig pan is right aroudn 4 bucks. Cheaper, neater, and much more cost saving than the hanging feeders.

That is very neat Nova.

Me either! I think I have about 3 more loads of leaves to pull back to the chicken run and 4 more bags to still fill. UGH! AND going to run over the lawn one last time, put some gas stabilizer in the lawn mower, park it in the back shed, get out the snow blower and park it in the garage... Maybe even get the silkies moved out to the coop that is free in the run now. Well, I have 2 that are free in the run now.

I am just happy that Olive told me how to do it to begin with. She's helped me save a lot of money! I was going through 1 bag of feed every 9 days. Now I am getting 5 ore days on a bag of feed. I figure with winter coming, it'll be more, but I am saving money in the long run really with no feed waste.

Morning Nova,
I am good. Been treating a couple sick pets last few days. I have a dog that has a bad tooth so I have been giving her penn. shots. She has cancer real bad and nothing the vet can do so I'm just making her comfortable. She is doing better. Quit eating for a couple of days because of her tooth but eating up a storm now LOL. Plus I have a little bity kitten ( I know, I know, I don't like cats) but I won't just sit by and watch them die either. She got a real bad cold and was all clogged up so I put her on penn also. 2 shots a day. Yesterday I knew she was hungry. If a cat can't smell their food they won't eat. Well, I knew she was hungry but wouldn't eat anything I offered. So I went out to my coop and got my VetRX and warmed it and put some on a Q tip and smothered her nose in it. Within an hour she was eating and drinking again. That stuff is amazing.
Good buy on that washer and dryer. Good going.

Yup, Dan is a good guy, and he saw me hanging my clothes one day when he was going by doing route work, he's a paper carrier also, and so he stopped and asked if I wanted them. Um, HELLO YES! LOL.

Aw, you'll be a kitty lover if you aren't careful. LOL. I prefer my dogs to the cats, but I like the cats too. I had one cat who was my main squeeze. This guy ws declawed on the front and fixed. BUT he was a total terror to the outdoor cats. He was indoor and outdoor cat. I cried so much when I had to put him to sleep. He had a UTI that medicine was not helping cuz he had both positive and negative crystals that required 2 different meds, but they couldn't be taken together easily, and it was killing him. So... I haven't loved a cat as much as him though. He was named Titan, and boy was he.

Morning Gigi. I read that as "get them in the sun," Not run... LOL, I was thinking, why would you put the stumps in the sun?! LOL

Believe me when I say, I have to go back and reread a lot. Some days my brain goes faster than my eyes, and I have to back up.

Hope your dog just has a UTI, not that that is a good thing. You could get some cranberry pills and trick her into eating them. Sherri, a friend of mine feeds her yowser a blueberry? powder in his food all the time, she has to actually home make his food every week because he has problems with store bought, even the organic brands. So, this yowser is super spoiled. I gave her a cockerel to make his food, and because of the amount of time to cook it, her and her bubby were going to have some of it also, the broth was very very strong, and actually upset the poor guys system, so she's back regular chicken... Oh, anyway, she gets the blueberry powder/enzyme and puts it in his food so it helps his digestion and kidneys, since he's prone to stones also. She uses it without fail. I will talk to her on Tuesday, and If I remember, I will ask her the name... Might wanna check it out. Might be able to find it on google/bing...

ANYWAY! No worky worky today. Well, I have house work to do, and going to finish the end cap that is over the coop where the coons can get in. If they want. I am thinking I will trim back all the branches that actually hang over and touch the coop. I know they are small, but I don't want any of them to be where a coon can use it to get in through the top. Am I just being paranoid here? I might be. I'd really like to leave the coops open to the run at night now that the top is on, but not if I am going to have to worry about a coon going thru the top. I guess, I am just going to suck it up, buy 20 feet of fence, the rabbit kind, that's 3 feet tall, and run it along the inside, under the tarp... Think that'll be good? Am I being a paranoid freak? That coon attack on that took out my beautiful babies really has me... nervous about it... I do not want to see anything like that again...
Stump in the sun -- that actually sounds good right now. Go sit under a tree, sit something to drink on the stump and just chill. Blueberry powder is a good idea but it is my goat that has the UT. I need to try to go out and collect more urine to take to the vet. I'm hoping she doesn't have stones 'cause that's a lot more dangerous. I worry constantly --> do I feed too much alfalfa and not enough timothy? Do they get too much grain? Are they too fat? Why can't I get anything to grow in the pasture (that one's easy - cause they eat it all down immediately).

I don't think you CAN be too paranoid about coons. When the coon got into our coop he had to wobble/crawl/claw his way across about 20 feet of avian netting about 15 feet in the air and then chew threw heavy nylon rope around a tree trunk to shimmy through the netting and down the tree. After the chicken was killed I watched this same coon make his escape back the way he came in. It was amazing. We put up the electrical wire right after that and put an outside door on the pop door opening so that now the pop door slides down in place and then the outside door is folded up and hooked over it. Maybe overkill but so far has worked. I know how hard it is to lose one of the girls - my DH and I both cried.

Gigi...

Do you have Braggs ACV? add 1/2 a teaspoon to her water for 3 days, or her food... then 1/2 teaspoon every 3 days for preventative. It does however say, to get her urine examined too, since she'll need meds for it more than likely. The ACV will help to neutralize the bacteria so she can get some relief.
I use it in their water but I may start to add it to their feed also.

Wow - that just makes me tired...

I love VetRX. In fact DH has a bad cold and I'm seriously thinking about taking it to his nose - LOL!

Morning all. Just popping in before I start getting things productively done. If I can, that is. I feel like I haven't slept properly all week and I am really tired. My oldest daughter is the stage manager for this week's school musical so I've been doing her chores and running her here and there all week. And to add to it, she's getting run down to the point I've had to pick her up early from school twice this week because she's not feeling good and is losing her voice which she can't do because she needs to cue everyone. I've got her drinking some honey vanilla tea right now and resting so hopefully she can rebound a bit. Anyone know what else I could do for her throat that's fast acting?

Nova, I might have missed it, but how big is that feeder? And how many chickens do you have? If it can prolong your feed, I wonder if our flock sizes are similar because that would be great.

A Loss Of Two Wonderful Hens

Today has been a sad day. Yesterday wasn't much happier. Yesterday, I went out to the chicken coop and found Lil' Baby dead. Lil' Baby, if you have never seen her from y thread Hilarious Stinkeye Must See Pics, was a silkied naked neck, and quite a wonderful companion. She had been acting very sickly for 3 days. The day before her death, she was out in the pen, moving about very groggily. Then, I went out to the chicken coop the next morning of November 8th. and found her lying dead in the pen. I cried as I carried her to a grave site. Goodbye, Lil' Baby.
You are missed.

Daisy's death was completely unexpected and sudden. She flew up in the air to get somewhere, and the wind just kept carrying her... right into the dog pen. The dogs had only put a few scratches on her and her neck and body was still intact. She'd had a heart-attack. I was in my room when I got the report that the dogs had killed a hen. I knew right away that it was Daisy. Godbye, dear old Daisy. You had only just started laying, too.

Comfort will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading.
