hi gang. Quickie update.

Mom had two surgeries on her knee, her white count is climbing again instead of dropping, she is on Vancomycin IV. Probably going to have surgery again tomorrow.
They cant kick this infection. Its a doozy. She continues to run a fever and her bp is too high. On a good note, her kidney levels have returned to normal.

I havent seen anything from Robin- everyone know that she is okay?

Morning Kim. I am still around just a lot going on right now. Dr. appointments, tests, dealing with idiot bully nephews, getting PPO's on them and on top of all that someone is stealing my chickens !!!! Have to go buy padlocks today for my pens. That's pretty pathetic when you have to put everything under lock and key.
Nova - Not going to be able to do that trade as much as I want the Polish. Whoever is stealing my birds have centered on my blue Marans !!! So far they have taken a Cuckoo rooster with feathered shanks I was keeping back for breeding next year and most of my blue hens. I have only 6 blue Marans hens left. I am soooo pithed about this. I had at least 15 blue hens I raised. Now I'm down to 6. All I can say is they don't want me or my neighbor Bob to catch them cause if we do their problems in life will be over. If someone is taking them because they are hungry then they need to just ask me for food.....DO NOT steal from me. I have a family in Marshall that has 2 little kids. He lost his job, she works at K Mart part time, state won't help them, so once a week I have been taking in dozens and dozens of eggs plus other food for them. Somebody just needs to ask.....not steal.

NAh we have not run out of things to say we just all been a little bit lower on steam i think .. i know my levels are a little low but ill be better when i adjust .....

That's true. Too much going on with getting ready for Thanksgiving. I'm so tired.

Ugh, I think I'm coming down with something. I have a sore throat, head ache, and feel like I'm going to puke. My mom just got over the flu a few days ago.........I hate being sick. Oh well, I got a lot done today. Cleaned the brooder, cleaned Potato's cage (Potato is my adopted house chick. His mom and siblings died a week ago, so I brought him in and have been taking care of him. He's named potato because he's about as attractive as a potato, and because I won him over with a piece of stale potato bread with oatmeal on it.

), cleaned the run, cleaned and reset the porch furniture, raked around the porch and goat pen, took apart the old goat pen and hauled away the panels, cleaned up the yard, cleaned out the tractor, and moved a lot of stuff to the barn. Seems like something else but I can't remember what.........
Oh, and my buff orp has a chick now. He's SOOOOOOOOOOOO cute! He looks like a generic cheesy Easter card chick. Cuteness!

The state tree service is slaughtering trees along our access road. It's so sad to see these 20ft wide swaths of destruction of the forest. I think they are making fire brakes which I understand but I still mourn the trees. My youngest son came out today and we loaded up about 15 large stumps and then drug them into the goat pen so the goats now have a stump play yard. We also put 6 in the chicken run so they have places to perch and sun. I'm worn out.

Nova and Fuzzy, I really like the idea of heat tape inside a downspout. I have all this 4X4 tile. I was thinking I could glue the tile to the top of the 2X4 roost, tape the heat tape to the top of it, then glue another layer of tile on top of that so that's like a heated bathroom floor. That would prevent the tape from touching the wood. You would have to smear a silicon glue on top of the top tile layer and then pat in course sand to cover. That might be hard to clean though. Or maybe find a rough tile for the top layer that could still be scraped clean. The 2X4's could be switched out as soon as it warms in the spring so they would only be used during the winter.

I can't believe someone is stealing your chickens. Can you lock the coop door at night? geesh. I think I would set up at night and scare the beejeesss out of them - as well as call the cops.
