I am new to chicken raising and am concerned as to why my hens seem to be gagging. We are in Texas and have had a miserable hot summer, no rain since May and so many days over 100 I lost count. Could this be a reaction to the heat. They eat just fine and drink plenty of water. I have been giving them watermelon and boss as treat and of course laying pellets. We lost one hen right after we got her but she did not have this problem. My husband put a fan to where it blows in the run pretty strong, but they seem to be more comfortable with it. Could it be causing the gagging?

Thanks so much..never heard of gapeworms..will get more experienced neighbor to check them out for me..all five hens are doing the same thing. I read that the best treatment is ivermectin.from tsc. I will get some.
