80% is too much humidity. You shouldn't be hatching past the low 70s.

I had the same anticipation with our quail 7 weeks ago. It was aweful to wonder if everything was going to work out, especially since we couldn't see anything when we tried candling. But then on day 17 we saw our first pip and we were freaking out. How many were going to hatch? How long will it take? I set up a web cam so I could check in on them all day long. On day 18 just before quitting time, I looked and saw one crawling around on the other eggs. I ran home just in time to take a video of one hatching. Over the next 36 hours the rest hatched out. Then we had to wait for eggs. They just started laying last week.

Good news! 5 just hatched! They're kinda staggering around like they're drunk, I'm really hoping that's what they're supposed to be doing. How long does it take them to dry off?

It took about 20 minutes for ours to fluff up. They seemed to hatch in waves of 5-6 so I just pulled them out when things settled down and I didn't see any new ones zipping.

Staggering around is normal. Heck, it is a miracle that they can walk at all given their size and the fact that they have never done it before. In 24 hours they will look like little bumble bee's running around the brooder. Quail amaze me with the speed that they develop.

You're right it is amazing how fast they get up, but man I would feel terrible if I managed to cripple these guys for life before they've even been out of the shell 10 minutes

yea they grow fast, the birds I hatched the other day are feathering out as well, most of them will be a week old tomorrow.


Thought about posting this earlier but didn't know where, I guess this is as good a place as any....

Heres what I've been doing today, unsuccessfully I might add...This tree is 5 maybe 6 feet from my quail house...




Its massive and I'm afraid this may kill it.

Oh the center has been dead for many years

but I never expected it to catch fire....
