so...How do I find out the laws and how many hens I may have?

My husband went to a feed store this morning here in Gainesville and was told that within city limits we could have 3 hens.

Here it is folks, from the mouth of CITY CODES:" no more then two and they cant crow, and we prefer them not to roam." (it all goes back to that chicken crossing the road thing)
Einstein's law of chicken mathmatics: 2 really means 4 right?

Do you really want to risk losing them by disobeying the ordinance? Wouldn't it be better to seek a variance, or a change in code? If you have kids, think of the example you are setting them--"sure it's okay for ME to break the rules, but you better behave according to my rules."

Well, get the two you are allowed, then try to get a variance to get the ordinance amended to allow more. Two seems a really small number. And consider the differences between two large brahmas and two tiny serama. Perhaps the ordinance should distinguish between bantams and large fowl, allowing more bantams.
