"I know how you feel! If you'll stop and listen to me!" Dusky reached out, grabbed a mouthful of Violet's tail and planted her feet. Titan had used this tactic on her once. It hadn't been pretty, but it'd worked.

Violet spun around. For once, her anger was contained. "Alright, I'm listening."

Dusky couldn't speak immediately; she'd tried hard to blot out the memory of how she'd met Titan. When she spoke, the words came pouring out. "As I said, I was in Dour's first herd, and I was his favorite. I was blinded by one-sided love, so I couldn't see Dour's true nature...his nature to hoard mares only for mating." Dusky took a breath. "Black Ice, another of Dour's originals, had run away, and Dour left to find her. They never came back, so I went to look. I found Dour and Titan. Titan had nearly killed Dour. I fled, but I couldn't get far. I was about to foal."

The blue roan stopped and looked at the ground. She said nothing for a long time. Finally, she continued, "Titan chased me, and I had the foal. I hated Titan! Hated him! I thought he'd killed Dour. I thought he was going to kill my foal! Eventually, I learned that Titan truly loves his mares. Dour...Dour never loved anyone."

Violet listened. "I don't think Titan loves me, either," she said quietly.
