After a while Aurora stood and began urging the two foals to stand and nurse.

Two foals and a mare were under the shade of a tree. Annalise was laying on the ground, panting. A lively grullo colt danced gracefully around his dam, tearing at her skin, eager for his meal. A tiny grullo filly lay on the ground about a foot away from her mother, still as a statue.Dour had stomped a muddy trench in the ground from his pacing. He looked nervously at Violet then turned and galloped away. "Annalise!" He whinnied, his tone frantic. "Annalise!"
Dour skidded to a stop, slinging a cloud of dirt. He didn't dare come closer, but he whinnied desperately, at both his mate and the motionless foal. "Annalise! Get up!" He backed his ears and pawed, panicked. "The foal...it isn't moving!" You're not moving, either, he added to himself. Two foals and a mare were under the shade of a tree. "I can't," she whispered, her voice raspy. "I can't."Dour skidded to a stop, slinging a cloud of dirt. Dour reared, struck the air and whinnied, but not in celebration, in fear. When his hooves hit the ground, he gave another despairing whinny. The sound carried for miles, and it reached the ears of one nearby mare."I can't," she whispered, her voice raspy. "I can't."
Another contraction rippled through Annalise's body. A third foal slipped onto the grass.Dour reared, struck the air and whinnied, but not in celebration, in fear. "Dour..." Dusky said with a stamp of her hoof. She had a score to settle with him, but right now...something about the stud's whinny sounded fearful, desperate, even. The blue roan trotted in Dour's direction.
Dour, in spite of his panicked state of mind, grew still and stared, his eyes wide. TRIPLETS! He thought. He failed to notice the blue roan mare arriving behind him.Another contraction rippled through Annalise's body. A third foal slipped onto the grass.
Annalise was weak, but she stood up to let the foals nurse. Only two, a filly and a colt, stood up. The second filly lay still on the ground.Dour, in spite of his panicked state of mind, grew still and stared, his eyes wide. TRIPLETS! He thought. Dusky, just as surprised, had stopped and was staring at Annalise and her triplets.
