Has anyone ever had problems using galvanized chick feeders/waterers? I just unpacked some that I haven't used for a few years. I am wondering how safe they are to use if they have some white zinc powder on them.

I have read a number of times that people have problems with zinc on welded wire (almost always exotic birds that chew on the wire). I am wondering if using older metal chick feeders might be a problem. They were only used a couple of times previously and are in good condition otherwise.

if the zinc coating doesn't bother you well use them
there is much said about using older galvanized feeders and waterers
and ofcourse you can't water them with apple cider vinegar which chickens do need as the ACV helps the birds use their clcium and Vit D better

there are several articles here about using the rusty galvanized also
any questions email me

Thank you, Glenda. I tried searching for zinc rust and nothing came up. I have heard you can wash them in vinegar to get that white powder off. I am trying to clean them up and see how they look. Even the new ones seem to sometimes have this white powder on them.
