Hello,

I’ve been raising Cots since Sept. and am looking to diversify a bit.

Any tips on Gambels and Valleys would be welcomed.

Gambels - They pair 1:1, is that correct?

Valleys - I think I read they are good at 3:1?

Can they eat the same game bird feed as the Cots?

How are they on wire? I’ve read they like to perch more than Cots do.

Can/will either breed brood and hatch their own chicks?

Thanks in advance!
Dave

The pairings about right. I raise mine on both wire and ground enclosures. As long as the feed your feeding your Cot's is 24%, there should be no problems. If raising on wire, I would include dust baths and free choice oyster grit in their enclosure.
There are cases of the birds going broody and hatching their own but I haven't had any of mine ever do, either.

Thank you. Yes I do all the same for Cots. You are raising Gambels and C. Valleys?

Okay cool. I wasn’t sure if I was reading that right. So G’s and V’s can still be healthy on wire provided they have the dust bath.

I was mostly concerned about the ratio and the wire. I figured they would eat the same food.

Do they require more space than Cots? I’ve found mixed info online.

Thanks!

With all gamenirds the bigger the enclosure the better! I haven't raised Cot's in 30 years! but the principles haven't changed that much...gambles and valleys will do better, less arguments/fighting if they have a large enclosure. They do just fine on wire. As long as they have protection from the elements and drafts they will thrive.

Perfect! Thank you. I have some open space that I can make a larger aviary for them. High enough to let them jump, but still keep it wired against predators. Appreciate the insight!
