Game Bird Feed

Flock Raiser and Gamebird I believe are the same - I use Flock Raiser, since I have mixed age birds- Free choice oyster shell with that - works for me

I feed game bird feed because I want my birds to get some animal proteins. The purina feed I usually buy doesn't have any. Sometimes I buy a bag of each and mix them.

Purina game bird is I think around 30% protein, much higher than the 20% flock raiser. Game bird is for baby turkeys, guineas ect. I would use flock raiser for a mixed age flock, layer for a hen flock, and game bird for a treat, or maybe for a chicken recovering from an illness. I doubt it would hurt a laying flock that had a separate calcium source ( I am not sure if it has enough calcium), but is more expensive.

I guess it depends on your area. Gamebird feed here is house brand and interchangeable with Flock Raiser on protein. They're both more expensive than layer pellets. If I remember, when I've seen Layena the protein levels were on par with our regular pellets 16%. The pellets were smaller than our local brand and they were a couple dollars more per bag.

We often have different age ranges, quite a few roos and I like higher protein for molts and the showbirds. Never bothered when we just had a free ranging layer flock. They just got Layer feed.

I feed a 16% layer from KTA mixed with a 7 grain scratch that has 22% protein.
