I had to get starter Game Bird Feed and scratch feed for my 8 week old chickens and I was wondering if it is safe to feed a mix of these to my chickens. Or should I just feed them scratch. i have been feeding them organic grower feed but the store I buy from is sold out and this is the only feed I could find.

thanks

I would save the scratch as a treat (I throw a handful out every now and then for a large flock of birds). They'll do fine on the gamebird feed. It is higher in protein than they really need and you may find they grow pretty fast, so when their regular feed is available again, I would probably get some and mix it with the gamebird feed until it is gone.

With the higher protein in the game bird feed you could give them more scratch to lessen the protein level to slow their growth. Rapid growth can lead to joint problems if you are keeping them long term. The question is whats the protein percent in both feeds? for a little while they should have no problems with the game bird feed.
