In caring for chickens and chicks in Tehachapi, Ca
I have tow game hens and i don't know what breed they are but, they are very broody . One stays on for the whole time but, the other one lays and just gives up . And even if they hatch the other one takes over her chicks , i guess that is a good thing because the chicks would die if she didn't . Is there any way to stop the bad hen for laying ? Then she would eat all her eggs before they would hatch .

Why would you want to stop her from laying? I thought that was the whole point of having chickens

Anyway, not all broodies are created equal. Some are the best mothers, some are a little scatter brained and others should just not be allowed to attempt chicks. I think your hen falls into that last category. I'm not saying it to be mean, I've had some bad moms too. And when they decide its time to test my nerves again, they go into a wire bottomed cage (with no bedding) to be broken.

My good girls get to sit every time. The bad ones, not so much, they frustrate me to no end so I just don't deal with them and brooding.

Good luck!
