a spangled whitehackle would be a good choice, but any spangled game would work. whitehackles are a group of bloodlines with similar traits. in terms of spangles, there's Hatch, Butchers, Whitehackles, some Clarets, and Kelsos. "yard hatch" (crossed bloodlines) that are spangled would be cheaper probably and work just as well.

yard hatch, is a chicken that was hatched by hens on the yard. and you have no idea what the father is. (or the hen if she is as well). i'd probably breed her with another white hackle so i can keep "pure" bloodlines, if you want you could cross her with a good grey (silver duckwing, or golden duckwing ) and then you would have spangled greys, which are two of my favorite colors in one :} heres a post Shelley for all games. on the first post you can see a beautiful grey https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=106767 and a few more. i even have a picture of A white hackle posted on page.. 3 i believe. not the ones i referred to earlier but nonetheless still a beauty i think

We have another (I think the mama of this one) that looks like the bird with the 'top hat', though hers is on the back of her head instead of the top. None of them carry their tails very high, but they are usually running away when I see them. This one was being 'courted' by a big RIR cockerel that she was not fond of, so she let my 4 year old get her. She freaked out and almost got away when I tried to pet her!

yep, that's what yard hatch is. i was just trying sum it up shorter, lol. the bird you said has that crest on the back of her head is what they call a toppie.

and yes, they can be very gentle.

yeah, game chickens can be quite wild if not handled much.. but if you handle them daily.. as any breed they calm down, probably to some of the gentlest ones i know

I have a roo (I just posted his pic on the link you gave me) that is not much for touching, but he is nowhere near as wild as the others. He will let you walk right around him no problem, until you look like you might touch him. But he is a big sissy, the OEGB roos I have are always running him off!

the young rooster looks like he has some wyandotte in him.. other rooster is a phoenix or Junglefowl i believe. (White earlobes. right color. and looks like a long, or at least.. fairly long tail) more i look at him though. junglefowl
